please excuse my ignorance but as we dont get prarie dogs over here (in Australia) i just wanted to find out exactly what they are and what do you do with them.
sorry for the ignorance

Well, they're kind of like a gopher on steroids. As for what we do with them, well . . . take a look at the sample video on dogbegone.com. We flip 'em, splatter 'em, launch 'em, and vaporize 'em.

They inhabit dry western areas of the States, in colonies, or "towns". There can be several hundred in a town. Not the brightest critters on earth, but they do know how to multiply. And how to sit upright for the nice man with the rifle.

Weapons of choice are everything from .22 rimfire, .17 hmr, any of the .22 centerfires (most commonly the .223 and 22.250), all the way up to .50BMG.

Not table fare for most of us, but the remains, if any, do feed the coyotes, fox, badgers, magpies and crows.

If you ever visit the States, let us know here in advance. I'm sure someone would hook you up with a day of doggin' and a night of ?????. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LOL, Thank goodness for that! They like to ham it up for the camera as well.

Aussie Calum if you do come this way be sure to take out a life insurance policy, bring a LARGE Bowie knife for hand to paw fighting for those that charge you after you have shot them with a 45.70 and plenty of claymore mines for a secure backside when you are shooting so they can not sneak up behind you. I could tell you stories of grown men crying and getting their heads ripped off from the Texas Panhandle meateating pdogs but it is too gross for this site. Just buy a video till you can come up this way and then hollar at some of us Texans who might still be alive to hunt and we will show you what it is all about. The stories about us shooting them with .223's and 22.250's are not true. We use those for the mosquitoes.

Prairie dogs are great fun,I went over to South Dakota to hunt them in June and had a great time,I would recommend it to anyone.
You only live once so get on a plane and go. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You really can't pay that much attention to Lavoy, he does exaggerate some, very few people get attacked by pdogs as long as they leave a spotter out to watch for them. Only the really careless shooters get chewed up anymore. Just make sure the spotter is well armed with enough fire power to break a charge.
