Pre-64' Winchester Heavy Barrel

As of late I have been looking into some of the offerings from Winchester that have a Varmint/Heavy Barrel. It is clear that as with most companies, quality has varied over the years.

I am looking for a heavy barreled/varmint version that still uses the Pre-64' Control Round Feed system. Doesn't have to necessarily be a pre 64' serial number, but do want a USA made gun.

Can anyone help out a little? I have seen models such as the Heavy Varmint, Stealth, and Stealth II, as well as some of the "coyote" offerings.

Not really doing any custom build, just want the barreled action to drop in a McMillan.

What a 'beaut!

The more I search, I believe what I am looking for is a heavy varmint rifle made between 1992 - 2006. this seems to be the era during which Winchester reintroduced the pre '64 action and before they began producing them outside of the US.

Not sure what heavy barrel models were offered during this time, but am on the hunt.

So I guess my question is: what models had a heavy varmint barrel, were manufactured between 1992-2006, and have the pre-64' type action?

I'm pretty sure that the Winchester Heavy Varmint rifles built during the time frame you are referencing were all push feed model rifles. USRAC (the New Haven licensed builder of Winchester rifles in that time frame) had introduced the CRF Model 70 action in this time frame too, but I don't know of any CRF models in the Heavy Varmint series.

IIRC, they came in 223, 22-250, 220 Swift, 308 Win, and possibly in 243 Win also. And there is always the possibility of the existence of a "one-of-a-kind" or limited production variant in some other caliber.

I'm on a phone right now and I don't have access to all of my references, but again I think that a Model 70 Heavy Varmint would be push feed only. They were and are excellent rifles.

When I heard they were closing in 2006 I purchased a model 70 Stealth in .308 Win, it is a push feed. Right after I purchased that Stealth a new version called Stealth II came out with CRF. The Stealth II was in production till the factory closed.

The Stealth I purchased has been the best shooting rifle I have ever owned. I'm also not a fanatic on CRF, always felt it's over rated unless your hunting dangerous game.
 
FWIW, there were some models that were a cross between push feed & CRF in the more recent years. I cant name specific models, etc at this time, but I know some were produced as a half and half situation....again, FWIW.
