Predator Calling Hall of Fame?

In March 2004, in Silver City, New Mexico, they had what was hoped to be, a perpetual hall of fame awards banquet to be held yearly. They had two categories for inductees, living and deceased. The first three living hall of fame inductees were: Gerry Blair, Gerald Stewart and Murry Burnham. The deceased were Morton Burham and Johnny Stewart, I can't remember the third winner. All of these men were very deserving of the award. The entire show was put on by the late Bruce Kennedy and his wife, who paid out of his own pocket for the whole show. It was a gathering of many of the great names of predator calling all under one roof. Just a few of the "greats" that were there: Major Boddicker, Murry Burnham, Gerald Stewart, Gerry Blair, Bowen Weems and that's just naming a few.
My question is, why has no one picked up the ball and continued such an event? Our sport is deserving of a hall of fame and so are the people inducted into it. It seems to me that there would be enough sponsors out there to continue what the late Bruce Kennedy started.
Your input would be appreciated.

Danny, that is an interesting question. I suspect the answer is as simple as "no one brought it up."
Now that you have I think it has some merit and bears serious consideration and discussion.
I'd like to hear some ideas and comments on it.

Yes, thats a shame BillyTheKid. To bad the pioneers aren't recognized. Et no one to keep the history alive.

A few yrs back, one brutal cold snow covered Winter day. I met two old guys, out hunting coyote. They were coyote trackers. They done that since as youths, prior to World War II. They were both in their 80's the day I briefly met them. I doubt anyone ever acknowledged their tennure or diehardness. But myself. I was in awe of them.

personally i had no idea that coyote call'n had become so popular until 2004 when i first saw dvd's and e-callers at a sportsman's warehouse.....never ran into anyone in the field....but maybe that explains those occasional shots i heard....and now this is the first time i've heard of a PHOF banquet....this discussion could get interesting.

kirby....i agree...with all our technology involving clothing, ballistics, electronics....isn't it amazing that most of us are in awe of those who preceded our tracks....more to hunting than those who oppose us will ever understand.

i think bill Austin should be in the deceased category.
those that are mentioned are my hero's my kind of rock stars.
yes there should be a hall of fame. several of the guys here should make it too

"Those who choose the sport are, in most cases, the type of individual sportsman to whom a different approach has an allure. Varmint callers are a special breed reveling in the wide open elbow room kind of places. They are adventurers, in a sense, who enjoy hunting some of our smartest animals in a one-on-one atmosphere where anything can happen and usually does".

The above is a quote from Jim Dougherty. I think he earned a spot in the hall of fame.

CatDaddyCold,
Jim Dougherty was a nominee at the first hall of fame banquet. Unfortunately he didn't get in on the first round. There are many names that could have been nominated and deservedly so but they all can't get in the first time (three spots only). That's why we need to continue with the hall of fame. There are so many people who have done great things to promote this sport.
CatDaddyCold, I know Jim lives in Oklahoma now but all his predator hunting fame came from California, my home state. lol
To everyone else, I am really happy to see all the positive interest in this endeavor. Like my good friend the late Bruce Kennedy, I have been dealt a bad hand. In the time I have left, it would be my honor to help continue with what he started in 2004. Thanks for all the interest guys, maybe we can make this happen...

Is that the same Jim Dougherty who was on the pro staff for Ben Pearson archery?

Yes it is Possumal.
He is also the past president of Pope and Young I believe.
He was also the first World's Predator Calling Champion and a long time member of the California Varmint Callers Association (Pasadena Chapter).
For an old guy I still have a good memory..lol

Thanks Cat Daddy. I bow hunted with Jim in Colorado years ago. We were hunting out of John Lamicq's camp in the Roan Creek Area. He is a super nice guy and one [beeep] of an archer and bowhunter.

Cat Daddy, + 1 on Jim Dougherty, I knew him from the old Bow Hut in S. Pasadena in the late 50's and early 60' he founded the California Varmint Callers and knew what he was doing. I f you see him say hi from Roys friend Vance. He also said Coyotes aint so smart, they can only count to four.
