Predator hunting equipment checklist

This is always a topic of discussion that my coyote partner and I have fun with /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif(known in our own little world as "Dog Down, Inc.) Keep in mind that most all of our sets are fairly close to our vehicle. Foot problems suck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif Just went back into the strap on boot/cast Wednesday. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Feet broken but I'm still hunting, I ain't dead yet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif (FIDO)

So, with this in mind, this is what I tote to each set:

Calls (E or hand)
Field Dressing for gunshot wound
Case Trapper pocket knife
Sitting pad
Walking pole and Mono Pod pole
Compact Nikon Binos (sometimes)
Bottle of water (sometimes)
Otis cleaning kit
Rifle or shotgun w/ammo
Radians elec. hearing protection that fold up small
Motorola hand held radio

Everything fits in my cargo pockets except the pad and the e caller. Always traveled light, now with my feet not really any other option. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm trying to see the logic behind taking a cleaning kit to the stand when your only a couple of hundred yds or less from your vehicle? Can you explain this for me. I to drive to all my stands and walk only a short distance away, maybe I'm missing out on something?

Here is my list for each stand:

Lanyard with calls/remote
FX3
turkey seat
bino's
range finder
rifle
coyote drag

Everything is either on my body or in my pockets. I usually don't take a pack.

Soreloser:

With the current deteriorating condition of my feet, and whether I am hunting in a cast or my special orthopaedic boots (think slick bottomed cabbage patch boots), I have had the opportunity to "bust my a$$" and stick my barrel once in the snow ,in Wyoming, and once in the dirt at LBL. The Otis kit has an obsturction remover tip that fits on the flex rod. It is a coyote "set" saver and potentially a life saver! Specially since I can't just run back to the truck. "Homey" can't run no where now! Uncle Sam got all I had! LOL

I would recommend this to anyone.

If you hunt at night a pair of walkie talkies comes in handy. One to spot the animal and one to retrieve. Makes yelling obsolete.

If youre still concerned by needing a bigger pack, i suggest you try a turkey vest. When i go out, i pack my rifle and shotgun ( I carry both ). my rifle shells, a box of #4 buckshot, a LED headlight for moving, tracking, my shooting light (2), a knife, a short length of rope, cover scent, deer or fox urine,TP,some trail mix or jerkey, a bottle of water, my caller, assorted hand calls, my cell phone, a lighter, an extra shirt or jacket, shooting stix, batteries, a decoy of some sort, extra gloves,a mask and hat. This way if a partner or you forget something, there is a backup. even though this seems like alot to carry, you can jam it all into a turkey vest and the weight is pretty evenly distributed.

one time i went hunting with a short sleave shirt and came back with a "muscle(cut off) shirt". my wife looked at me and said so who were you trying to impress out there in the woods today?. i just started laughinhg.
