Pup.....

What means more to me than anything is that my Father got to go out and participate in the hunt. They invited us both join in but I told him to go out and do the deal. The guys played the gator out and even let my Dad hit him with the bang stick. One of the guys was behind him holding his belt so he would not end up in the water with the gator!!!

He was like a little kid when he came back in. He has survived 2 heart attacks, a severe tachycardia event that left him with a pacemaker after a triple bypass, and has beat two different cancers. There is now way to describe how much it meant to him. He just turned 77.

Awesome, I knew you'd never forget this experience, having your Dad participate just anchors it in place.

Also glad to hear he survived this experience too!!

One time, my best friend and I were canoeing in River Styx Swamp on the North Shore of Orange Lake on the way down to a hog wallow. On our left hand side was a ridge about 5-6 feet high and low land swamp on the right. We only had about another 1/4 mile to go to where the hogs hung out and we would get out of the canoe and walk on the high side.

Suddenly, in the sunlight beaming through the trees on the eastern early morning shoreline there was an audible commotion and we both grabbed our rifles ready for hogs.

Instead a HUGE 10 FOOT GATOR came sailing over the front of our canoe as he launched himself in mid-air off the high ridge of the shoreline. My friend was in the front of the 16 foot canoe and the gator just grazed his head as he sailed OVER US and hit the water splashing us and flipping the canoe with us both now in four foot deep swamp water....we both screamed up the mud shore ridge like nobody's business in a heart beat, soaked and cover with mud.....I will never forgot that either....

Hey Ornery......

I was thinking along those lines myself with a different spin.....How about a regulation that all gators greater than 10 feet cannot be killed.

They have to be captured and then relocated to the Rio Grande River.

That's a monster and probably a once in a lifetime deal there. Nice that your dad could be a part of it. Gator hunting is on my list so I am of course mildly jealous.
