Predator Masters LBL HUNT!

Thanks Jim...trying hard too do just that!

Really glad to see this "LBL Hunt" thing finally happen. I believe it was part of Will's dream. Even so it took the dreams of many people to make this come this far! Too many to name so I'll just say "Thanks!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Guys I'm telling you all now... if you can't make the Globe Hunt then give lots of consideration to the LBL Hunt. The goal in both is to support the hunting sports and this board. It brings together a fantastic bunch of sportsmen centered on predator hunting and educating future hunters. The friendships made here last a long time, maybe even a lifetime! Go to both if you can! Hoping to seeya there! Nikonut /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

River Runner, why don't you see if you can cut loose long enough to join us. Our runt of the litter stepchildd may not make it this year and Keekee and I need somebody we can pick on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

One thing that always comes up is population of animals available. By my estimates there are somewhere between 450 and 500 animals there right now!Biologist doesn't believe it but he hasn't caused as many moonlight seranades as I have either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif I have stopped at one point and set off as many as four groups to howling. That is at least one group for each drainage there and the usual transient floating animals.Groups average six animals most years. Since LBL is basically landlocked about the only health issue these animals have is sarcoptic mange and I have only taken one animal with it. Mortality caused by anything other than man or another coyote is low. One pair of trappers working just two zones in Ky are taking an average of 85 animals a year in there. That is during a two week period in january.

It is possible that the population has maxed out there in the last few years. Signs I saw last winter seem to point to that. Maxed out is one coyote for each .6 of a mile. Chet thought I was crazy the first year when I threw these figures at him. I don't have positive proof of it yet but that would be over 650 animals in just the LBL alone. If I see the same signs a bit earlier in the year this time I will know it is fact.

As for why there are not a lot of them taken by hunters? You'll have to check that out for yourselves /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gifJimmie

Hopfully I'll be able to make it there this year.Depends on what the doc tells me.I sure would like to meet some of you guys.

Guys, I hope you all can make it this year! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Nawww... a little touched maybe but not crazy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
They may find those estimated numbers to be a little light in some areas.
Remember it snowed the day before the first year's hunt. Two-three inches of fresh powder made for easy tracking. Almost every where we looked... coyote tracks and trails made the night before... One or two coyotes can make a mess o' sign but it was simply amazing how many sets of tracks we found throughout the day. Evidence enough to make this coyotehunter a believer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

One thing is for sure... The LBL is prime real estate for coyotes and they have adapted to it quite well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ohhhhh I see. Your in need of a punching bag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I'm gonna do what ever I can to make it down there. As long as the Globe hunt don't financially drain me too much.

Hey, we need some release from all that strenuous work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously , I do hope you can make it. It's very good to put faces with names I have been yacking with so long. I sincerely hope Critter's health is good and he too can make this one. I missed his wisdom and wit last year. It's a real shame we are all so far apart that we only get one chance a year to shake hands and pick on each other. Of course the sharing tall tales is good too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifJimmie

No night hunting is permited.Poaching deer has always been a problem there and they don't allow even viewing wildlife with a light at night. These rangers there don't play either! You can expect the same treatment from them as you would from any police officer anywhere for breaking laws.

If you get your fanny in a crack from an accident or breakdown they are some of the greatest guy's you will meet. All the folks in the LBL are friendly and helpful as they can be. From management right down to grounds keepers.

All regulations for the LBL are posted in the website. Hunting info and and anything you need to know about the LBL is there even the planning for the future. They also have some info on what they are doing to increase the wildlife and posssibilites for wildlife viewing by the public. The website is easily navigated and very entertaining in itself.

This post also reminds me about emergency situations. All of you need at least a minimal emergency kit with a lighter or matches a small candle and a flashlight. I know almost all of you carry cell phones now but they only work from hill tops or well out in a valley.Should your partner break a leg or other accident you might have to leave them to get help. This way you could make them comfortable and much easier for folks to find them with a fire .Jimmie

My, my, my, how this has grown since that first little discussion a few years ago about trying to get a hunt together somewhere. I'm glad to see it's doing so well.
It's good to see some old faces on here as well as some new.
Feels like it's been a long time since I went coyote hunting..........heck, it has been a long time. Maybe someday in the near future I'll be able to get back out there with ya'll and I'll look ol' coyotehunter1 up and see if we can't pile some fur up.

Ya'll take care this year and remember.......it's all about OMG sauce, chili, longjohns and a dying chicken. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Ok... Who left the door open? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
Ya' never know what might wander in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Hey partner, long time no see!
Good to hear your still kicking! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Yep... your idea has finally become an "official" yearly Predator Masters event. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Went last year, I'm hoping to attend again this year, sure would be nice to have my ol' calling partner along.

Reguardless...
We can still "pile some fur up". My "backyard" coyotes are just about ready for a rematch! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Whenever you want, ya' got my number. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

***Sorry for the interruption, now back to our regularly scheduled programming ***

Well Chet....
Ya don't know how much I've missed our hunting trips.
Seems like everything is always in a big hurry and I'm not sure why. Hopefully this winter I'll get out a little more and I'll give you a ring.

I know where a few coyotes are hanging out in this part of the world, I just haven't had the time to hunt them. Maybe I can give you a buzz sometime in the next month or so and we can give it a try.

I'd love to give those coyotes behind your place another shot.....no pun intended. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'd love to make the LBL hunt, but that's a long ways off still so I am not making any comments on that yet. We will be changing Plant Managers in January so who knows what style of mangagement he will bring to the table.

Ya'll have fun and I'll get out there as soon as I can. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I think we are coming.
Can I still get a cabin close to the rest of ya??
And when will we know the dates so I can make reservation for one .
Thanks for you hard work guys

George

I sent my email booking cabins a2 and a3 last week but haven't heard back from them yet.May have to give Miss Wanda a call.

All of the cabins in Wranglers campground are fairly close together. There are a couple of shower houses and a few hydrants scatteredt around the area for water. The cabin area might stretch for as much as a half mile total. Pretty compact really for what all is there. And don't nobody feed them danged striped kitties /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Be tickled to have both you and Buckwheat come on down George. Jimmie

I just got comfirmation. Miss Wanda was just a little slow this week. Cabins A2 and A3 are headquarters for the hunt.Jimmie

How could I have overlooked such an important detail? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Have you ever looked at something very familiar and realize something isn't just right. You can't quite put your finger on it, but you just know something is different.

I've been coming pretty regular now for about a week or so.
Tonight I finally saw what just didn't look right.

If you'll go to one of Jimmie's posts.
It will say "Jimmie in KY", but I noticed something just under it that I hadn't noticed yet.
Right under that it has "Moderator / LBL Hunt Staff"...
Now how could I have missed that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

My hat's off to you Jimmie, sorry I hadn't noticed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

How long have you been one of those critters? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
