Predator Masters LBL HUNT!

Quote:
Off road vehicles are allowed only in one area. For the rest of the LBL they are a nono!Turkey bay off road vehicle recreation area is the only one they are allowed in and they must be trailered into there and out. And at that time of year it is likely to be closed because of soft ground conditions.

Sorry Dogduster, your stuck with sloggin' the hills with the rest of us. Let me know before hand and I can loan ya a walkin' stick to lean on while you catch your breath. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif I only stopped four or five times tops , today to catch mine /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gifJimmie

I have driven my old VW Chopped up Bug around Turkey Bay /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Good Times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
the dirt bikes did not seem real happy with us.
And the look on the faces of the people camped at the lakeshorpe, when we topped the hill above them and came down it....OH YEAH /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I would be glad for you to join us if you can Timber toes.It ain't texas but it's home to me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif Might get a wee bit cool come febuary but you never really know what the winds will bring. It's looking like another dry mild winter here so far. Jimmie

heck I can remember how hot and humid it gets there too!!
I sometimes think about moving back there. My wifes parents would be overjoyed to have her there, and maybe even me too.
My FIL gave me a M1A for Christmas, he is a great person. I'd say a .308 is minumum caliber for those Horse-sized Deer in LBL. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Thing is, it is entirly possible that when one of them passes, we could be living there (in Paducah) to help the other.

Small world aint it! I am about forty minutes south of there and go to school at PCC at present.

They are not quite horse sized but we did weigh one pup last year that was hog fat and hit the scales at forty pounds. That is about the top weight for all of them. Although there are several sets of tracks in the general area he came from that say there are some bigger ones in there. Could have been one of their pups. It went down to a well placed 22 mag.

When I say hog fat, the layer was 3/4 inch thick along it's spine and rump! That hide was as greasy as any coon I ever skinned.Jimmie

Whats the normal shot distance in that area? Globe sure was a blast last year. I'm still waiting to figure out if the Globe dates are gonna work for me this year. Here I could drive to in 7 or 8 hours.

I can honestly say I haven't had a shot oportunity at more than a hundred yards. Most are 75 yards or less. I don't think Keekee , or anyone, has had any over fifty in all the years we have been doing this hunt.

This is mainly big timber calling. Open hardwoods mixed with some open fields and cutover areas that are many years old. Most of the time you hear them long before they get there due to terrain features. This is the reason Keekee calls them drive by coyote's, they are here and gone before you know it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gifJimmie

very small world...for a short while I worked at PCC, in the Campus TV Studio. There is probably something I broke, still laying around, broken. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep! Drive by Coyotes! Thats it! For sure!

I would say around 50 yards is a long shot. Most of my set ups there are in your face type cover ( Thick) but there are places you could air it out to around 100-150 if you were set up for it.

Wow! Thats close enough to bust out a Black powder rifle. I'm a Flintlock muzzleloader freak. This is looking better every second. A few more questions. For those of you who have hunted the area, do you recommend KY or TN? Also, are electronic (Foxpro) calls legal? Lastly, are there any pigs/boars in that area? What are the odds of seeing one? Thanks all.

E-callers are legal in both states. The population is so high there that one state over the other doesn't matter. One zone in particular has been targeted for trappers 3 out of the last four years in the KY portion. The trapper was recently shocked when told the areas he worked filled back up almost as soon as he left! He removes 80 plus each year from three zones and does it in ten days.

As for the hogs they aint none. Ky is not fond of them and we eradicate all we can find in habitats such as the LBL. There is an eradication program for hogs going on at Fort Campbell now. There have been illegal attempts at stocking hogs in the LBL but coyote numbers are too high for them to make it.

Calling a coyote in the LBL is simply a matter of getting within calling range. If you do I can guarentee they will come. Whether you get one of them is up too you /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gifJimmie

We don't have an average amount of snow here. My son is 16 and has only seen maybe eight snow storms in his life.First year we hunted at 5 degrees and two inches of snow. Last year the daytime high was 48 and 33 was the low temp. We just take the luck of the draw /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif Jimmie

I have been trying to get through to make cabin reservations since the middle of last week, but keep getting a machine listing their business hours. Yes, I am calling during their business hours:). Anyone else getting through?

Thanks for the info Jimmy. Just as I was about to send the email, I decided to call one more time and they answered:) Apparently for that weekend the cabins are going fast. The closest one to the front is A24 which I reserved.

I hope their filling up with PM members. Is the map you recommend the same PDF one you can download called "Public Access Road and Hunt Area Map"?

It's new to me if you can download the map but it sounds right. I will go in there and check it out. Saves folks a lot of stamps. If a road map is available online do check it out well. It will help you become a bit more familiar before you get there.

And it do seem we have just about filled Wranglers campground for the weekend. There are two large cabins left in area A. 2 Large cabins and 2 small cabins in area B.Miss Wanda said for us to let her know if we need anymore. Jimmie
