Predator Truck Bed Setup

I was thinking the same thing. When I bought my shell, I had to call the local dealer to get a price. I couldn't find anything online through Leer's website.

Local Leer dealer here said $870 plus $150 for installation. Honestly, this is way higher than I expected considering I paid just a tad more for my shell installed.

I currently have DECKED system in the bed of my CCSB F250 with a CanBack shell. No complaints with the Decked system. It was weatherproof before I added the shell. It holds a lot and is quite modular. If they made a single side version that only took up half of the bed, similar to the set up in the YouTube vid above^, I'd rock that. A lot of my winter gear would do fine in tubs and really wouldn't need the extra security. Some extra head room to crawl in would be nice.
I have had a TruckVault before. IMO, they make a lot of money off of the name. You can, and I have, duplicate it for a fraction of the cost. Sold that one too to get the decked off of a guy on SH. Can't beat $500 for it. An additional benefit is that it by itself is way lighter than the TruckVault, so I'm able to pack more gear on. I was about to install airbags in it with the TV loaded up for a roadtrip with everything on top of it as well.

Hey @TOM AUSTIN, do you have any pictures of your TruckVault drawers as you actually run them? Or do you leave your stuff in there like in the pictures? I'm assuming not, but I could definately be wrong...either way, I love seeing other callers setups so I can always be fine tuning my own for efficiency.
TY!

I bought my decked and shell new for 2000.00 and when I lock my truck the tailgate locks also so for less than the truck vault I got both. I just did not want to spend 4000 dollars

My buddy Tim has a Tacoma we hunt out of a lot. Here's the system we use:

Not very clean or organized. But, neither are either one of us. I wonder how many coyotes one of those drawers will hold

I have tried thinking of all sorts of ways to manage the back of the truck. The problem is you have dust ingress, and coyotes leaking blood all over, getting stinky etc. Ideally some sort of tonneau cover would work but the problem is I think they all pretty much let in too much dust. I just have a massive plastic tub that is really considered a tool box that could be mounted in the bed. this carries all my recovery gear in it. winch, chains etc. then I just use totes for everything else.

if you need all this slide in slide out deals, I am just going to say I think your worrying too much, focus on wacking more dogs and taking less gear with you.

I thought I was making this post in this thread, but discovered I had picked up an older one, so, here's the pix:

I built wheel well tool boxes to store all my retrieval gear etc. and incorporated a sliding tray in my pickup using a sheet of 3/4" plywood with a 2x4" lip around front & sides. Tray pulls out far enough to reach items in front but best to load heaviest items forward.

Fabricated two wheel wells to support front end with 3" rubber wheels. Notice silicon caulking around wheel wells to contain any blood and keep it out of truck bed. Tray easy to hose off when pulled out of bed w/front end on tailgate.

I fabricated a set of very low pillar blocks and turned shoulder on ends of a 2' length of 3/4" cold roll to make the roller which supports rear end of tray, but have since located some 5/8"ROLLER BEARINGS @ Harbor Freight as well as 1" that would be much better; they're only .99 ea. or $1.99 for 1" and would be a lot quicker than building a roller!

To make my tray a lot more suited to load the large critters that I hunted, I added a boat trailer winch to front end of bed supported by a piece of 1/4x3x3" angle iron. Winch controls inside left tool box near tailgate.

Then added another sheet of 3/4" plywood with plastic "gliders" to make it easy to slide out. Mounted a matching set of door hinges on back of tray and front of this sheet and slip a 3/16" pin in each hinge to keep ramp from slipping while sliding heavy critters into back of truck. Just slide drawer out even with end of tail gate, attach ramp and you're ready to load 'em up.

Here is resulting ramp ready for use.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of loading any game using the ramp, but used it for a number of years and loaded lots of critters. The only drawback to the system is that you have to unload most of the bed to get a mature nilgai in the bed. Currently using my jeep w/boom for that duty as short wheelbase weaves into thick brush much better than the truck.

The drawer is still very useful when you have a bad back, however and in the event the jeep were not available can still handle the game retrieving duties very efficiently with the truck.

Thanks, guys, works for me.

I did have one MAJOR issue early on. I was hauling a load of lumber too long to close tail gate, which I had done before without incident, but this day I needed to change lanes quickly when a stop light changed so I showered down on it and.........drove out from under the entire load and dumped it in the middle of a busy four lane street!
