Predator Vest

Good thread here guys..

Vaprotrail.. If the pack that Redfrog shows in his post is the same one that he is wearing in Byon South's "Coming to the Call 5", I would say that it is sort of a hybrid between a backpacck and a vest.. It appears to have some side pockets that come out around the midline area and it has the spacious enclosed back pack type area that contains the L shaped bracket that serves as the back rest and makes the pack solid to lean against..

The pack that Tony is showing is ssimilar to the turkey vest that I use but I have removed the seat in order to make it cooler for the climate that I hunt..I have the seat still and it is not bad for sitting but when doing a lot of walking it promotes the retention of a lot of heat around and across my back.. That I can personally do without...

I gave 60 dollars for the vest similar to the one Tony shows but would have seriously considered the one like Redfrog's if I had seen it first....James L.

I am not too impressed with the predator vest. Like others have said, it looks like a camo fishing vest with shotgun and rifle shell holders. I have found that a turkey vest with a built in back cushion and a thick removable butt mat works VERY well in 90% of my predator hunting conditions, 100% of my coon hunting conditions, 100% of my turkey hunting conditions and 50%of my deer hunting situations (ground hunting) Here is what I use:

That's a good looking vest. I would really like to give Primos/Randy Anderson some business, but I don't see any reason to buy a "Predator Vest" without a seat. It looks as if a Super Tat'r is in my future!

One question....I assume the gamebag is more than big enough to hold a FoxPro call??

I don't have any really good pictures of it (best stuff is on a video tape), but here are some pics of the vest that my buddy Joe has. He had a local canvas shop build it. It has the same frame seat combination as the other pack I posted a picture of, but everything else was scrapped and built from scratch. It gets rid of all the things he doesn't want and only keeps the things he does, to reduce weight. It cost him $150 to have it custom built.

This is the kind of pack I'm looking for. I may have to do the custom build route.

Here is a pic of some coons that me and my buddy shot earlier this year. I was wearing the Super Tat'r while hunting. From left to right, I carried the second and third Coon in the game bag at the same time walking out of the woods to the truck. There is plenty of room and the game bag oversnaps to become smaller if need be. It's quite versatile.

Thanks for the info. I just looked at Cabela's site. What do you think about the Tactical Tat'r? The only drawback I see.....it may not have quite as much room.....and it may be "too-tailored" for a turkey hunter (holding specific calls and such). I am going to order one of these for sure though.

I was going to go with the tactical Tat'r because of the green shoulder straps vs. the black shoulder straps that the Super Tat'r has. But, like you I knew that I was going to use the vest for more than turkey hunting and was looking for something that would be up to the multi- tasking. I think the Tactical Tat'r is a perfect Turkey vest but too "mission specific" to Turkey hunting. I think you will be quite pleased with the Super Tat'r. BTW, the seat cushion zips off of the vest so you have the option of not taking it. When I night hunt, I do not sit down so the cushion stays at home. Again, versatility and adaptability with this vest is easy.

well, after several times out and messing with my tactical tat'r vest i love it... plenty of room... atleast for my gear... the outside right pocket has elastic loops in it that work perfectly for holding hand calls... the cushion is very comfortable... the large upper pockets will hold most howlers... the left front is where i keep my rangefinder ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, my folding shooting stix go right in the back btm pouct... there is an elastic cord on the back for holding raingear or extra jacket... does have shot gun shell holders but i am going to add a few rifle shell spots of my own... i picked up one of those shell belts at walmart for like 6 bucks going to cut it apart and add a section of it to the vest... but all in all... a perfect ten !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yotehunter74,

How big is the game bag on the Tactical Tat'r? Do you think it is big enough to hold an FX5 and a decoy? Thanks for the help.....I have narrowed it down between the Super and Tactical Tat'r....just can't make up my mind which one I like more. I guess the smart thing to do would be to go to Cabela's and see them in person.

what kind of decoy do you have? i know the foxpro will EASILY fit into it... i have no doubt that most any but the largest of decoys will fit... and if worse comes to worse and you dont have one of the yote carriers that many offer... you can put an average yote in it and just carry your foxpro

I'm going to use a regular turkey vest this year for hunting predators. Does anyone place their FoxPro in the regular call pockets? I have tried it on my turkey vest and it fits, I'm just worried about it being too heavy and ripping my turkey vest. Do most of you place your e-caller in the back?

I bought a primos predator vest and liuke it. Would I have paid 70+ NO WAY! I got it on clearance for 30.00. It cost no more than a turkey vest and I like the padded back and the pockets are set up better for calls. I like the magnet pocket it is slick and quite.

I like the brush camo and the fact that it can be worn in warm weather, due to construction or fitted over some heavier clothes. It has plenty of pockets and I like just having everything in the vest and not going on long walks forgetting some things.

Is it mandatory? Nope just a nice useful novelty item, I got by for years without one, but I have also left a few things when in a hurray too. I rate it a decent value at 30.00, but NO way could I justify it to anyone for 70.00, has to be alot of profit in that bugger at that price.

I just bought one from scheels on clearance. Was 139.99 I just bought it for 69.99. Check out www.blacks-creek.com I really like mine. I actually bought the turkey vest, but it is identical to the predator vest. The only difference I noticed was the camo pattern and the $.
