Predators with bow

I don't have any pics but have taken three coyots called in with a recurve. Have missed or spooked a lot more trying to get the shot.That was over several years trying.

I've whacked a few over the years with a compound. Closest shot was 5 ft (pinned it to a tree), furthest was about 50 yards. Average shots between 20 and 30 yards. I found the best time to call them in with a bow is in early spring when the leaves are just starting to bud. I focus on areas near large chicken and hog farms. Toughest part is drawing your bow without being seen. Best way to do it is with 2 to 3 people set up in a triangle. One caller (not allowed to use electronic calls out here) and two shooters.
 
I've killed a few cats and yotes w/ a bow, here is the latest one last month. I called up a double, but getting 2 kills is tough w/ a bow, lol.

Sorry but no pics. Shot couple this year out bowhunting. Smashed one at about 35yds with an ACC. It ran into about 20yds. And started spinning and bitting at its side. Sent another ACC at it. Hit it in the shoulder. Bit the arrow in three pieces. [beeep] me off so I shot a third arrow at it and it bit that one in two pieces. Two more yotes came in from behind me and tried drawing on one but it spooked. Lost the first arrow. Yote destoyed the next two. I don't think I came out on the winning end of that. Yote brought $25.00 at fur buyer. Arrows cost about $15 each. But what a rush. The next one that I shot was at about 25yds and he didn't even know what hit him. He ran about 35yds an smached into a big oak tree at full speed. Bout fell out of the tree laughing. Both were shot out of the same treestand about a month apart.

I shot my first coyote with a bow, but it was while I was in a treestand deer hunting. I don't suggest using a bow, as the odds of getting to full draw undetected is very low. Movement of any kind will alert the coyote and it's outta there before you can spit. This one is a 40 lb. male. He was very wary as he approached my stand and I had to wait for him to look away to draw.

An educated coyote is much more difficult, if not impossible to call in a second time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Coyotes are well known for their cunning and ability to recognize a bad situation.

I'm telling you this because you're east of the Mississippi, like myself. These coyotes are exposed to more humans than they are west of the Mississippi and that exposure allows the coyote hunter less or no mistakes.
