so with all of this how will it effect veterans with PTSD? from what i'm reading it could prohibit them from buying guns and even strip that right away from them. so they went to war for the USA and now we are going to tell them that they cain buy, sell, or even own a gun now?

Any insite on this for me here? am i understanding this right?

That my friend has already happen.
A buddy of mine hard working farmer came back from'nam the same year I did.
Went the VA with the same problems alot of us had back then.
Went to buy a rifle was turned down.
NEVER had leagel problem in his life but the va said he had ptsd so he is now labled a nut job !

This will be intresting to see. I live in the dictatorship of Illinois where we have to have a FOID card. Mine is getting ready to expire. I have never been turned down from buying a gun. I have been labled by the VA as having PTSD. I am worried about not being able to get my FOID card renewed. Does anybody know anything about this. If so how could I fight that.

If the PTSD thing does prevent me from owning a gun. What about the people who take anti deppresents. I dont know how this doesnt go agianst the Hipa law. Whatever happened to doctor patient confidentialty. This really is getting more and more communist.

I can tell you from experience when I came home I didnt want to talk to any one. I was afraid if I told them how I felt that it would prevent me from getting certain jobs and from being able to own a gun. I was assured by a friend of mine who was also in the military that they couldnt do that. So I went to the VA. They labled me as having PTSD. I remember telling the doc that if this meant I could not own a gun to forget everything I just told him and I would go home. He told me no that I would be able to keep my guns. Now if these EOs change that you can bet your [beeep] that you have vets coming home and acting like everthing just fine. Then you will see the militarys sucide rate go up even more then what it is now. Right now Its bad. In 2012 from the months of January to March they had around 1 suicide a day. Bad enought that they had to shut down Ft. Cambell for three days and told all the soldiers to go home and spend time with there families. I am going to be freaking out until I get my application back from the state. My FOID card expires in March. If they deny me my wife will own a few new ARs

There's a couple people on here that have "been labeled" as having PTSD.

You don't just get labeled unless you are having problems and trying to get disability do you?

Quite frankly I think if I were experiencing anything short of completely debilitating degrees of problems I'd be leaving the VA out of it.

You that have been labeled as having PTSD happen to be getting disability?

Quite frankly if someone is having the types of problems that are making it hard for them to work to where they need disability income for life maybe they need to be evaluated as to how deep these problems run.

I feel for those who really are having problems, and they obviously need psychiatric help. Unfortunately the real problem seems to be the numbers of people who see it as a lifetime income that are in every bit as good of shape as they were when they went in. How many people didn't have a job when they went in, and yet they think anything is different when they get out if they didn't learn an applicable skill?

Are you getting disability as a result? And I only ask this as a way of understanding how bad your PTSD is. A lot of people don't know what the problem is let alone what's involved.

just having PTSD doesn't mean that you can't work. It means that you have been exposed to a Tramatic experience.

I have talked to local police departments about the signs and how it can effect the people and as a speaker explained to them about how to best defuse a situation.

As for the gun buying ban.. There was an attempt a few months ago by the Senate to give the VA the authority to add someone to the "no buy" list without review. They blocked it and it was going to require the VA to get a Court Judge to review and approve. Which would be inline with the Consitution. I should have the right to face my accusors and defend myself in court.
The new EO letters appear to give the power the Dems were trying to gain to the VA anyways. I would be able to appeal the ruling, however it could take a while.
But I would like to make it clear that those with PTSD, Hyper viggilance, Social Anxiety, and a few others, do not immediately pose a threat to anyone without being provoked. They are not going to just snap and are more likely to commit suicide or become a recluse than anything.

As for the disability, they are being paid for a disability that has altered them in one fashion or another. It is a lot less hassle to deal with the Social Security people than to run yourself through the ringger or the VA. If you were at work and a pipe burst and fell and caused perment damage to you, wouldn't you file a claim against your employer? I bet you wouldn't settle for a $1,000 a month or less check for the rest of your life. That is what the VA is doing and they are getting off cheap. If you ever think you are good at math, google the VA disabilty calculator sometime and try and figure that out.. If you have lost 10% of movement or use of your shoulder, 10% of your left knee (meaning it was blown out), 20% because your back has crushed discs. and throw in 20% for PTSD where you no longer feel comfortable in crowded places and carry remorse for watching your friends be blown apart... Well that should add up to 60% (10+10+20+20) nope.. Not even close. That would actually be 48% and rounded up to %50.

yes I do recieve disablity. Not much though. I got labled for having PTSD after they said they thought I might need counceling. They set me up to speak to some doctor who had me take this test on the computer. He asked me some questions and then they told me that I was suffering from PTSD. This is not something I was seeking because I didnt want to be labled as crazy and loose my guns and the possablity of getting the job I have now. So I didnt agree to the appointment first until I talked to some of my Army buddies. I am however seeking disablity for my head. I came home and had some problems with it which resulted in me having a couple brain surgeries. Alot of soldiers come home with PTSD alot greater then mine. They feel like they have no one to turn to and they end up killing themselves. They dont want to look weak or they dont want people labling them as trying to get over on the goverment. So they hold it all in then put a gun in there mouths. All because people who have never served or have felt what it was like to see one there friends bleed out, say that there just trying to get dissablity and live off the goverment. Some people say some stupid sh@t some times. Woodguru whats your service record? I am just asking because most the people who make comments like yours are living off the sweat of the American Soldier, Marine, Airmen, and Sailor. To all are soldiers home and abroad God bless them and watch over them.

I see that there is some one on here belives that if a person has PTSD that they are looking for a pay day for it.
A couple points that are my opion-
If a man or a woman does gets disabilty for PTSD due to their involvment in military action I feel that is only right given the fact they gave up part of their life so people can say stupid thing they know noting about.
and point number 2 not every body that has PTSD tries to get disabilty - some suffer in slience , while other deal with it by hiding out while they sort it all out , which is what I did.
I have included a interview I did with NBC news while I was in "hidding".
But first I want to say this :
A friend of mine - Frank- and I went thur boot camp , Itr , BITS , ect. training together was standing 5' in front of me
in Viet Nam when his face was taken off by a round from a apprent snipper. as he was hit he turn to face me then fell.
As a 18 year old kid that is a sight I'll never get over ,
but I do not want disabilty for it.
Even if I did get disabilty for it the image will always be there.
I am Bob Wise my wife is Beth and My daughter is Tandy.
I will add that parts of the interview were not aired because the public can not grasp the reality of it.

Mr. Bob Wise i would like to tell you thanks. You my friend are a true American hero. Even though you probably dont think so or see how. You are. It is because of men like you that i even served. I took my oath not for college but i felt it was my time. Men before me laid down their lives for this country. I felt it was my time to do my part. If i was going to gripe and complain about things around me i needed to earn that right. You men of Nam, korea, and WWII are the men i look up to. I never looked at you guys as murderers. I looked at you guys for having the most selfless service. You guys would lay down your lives for each other. A man like that is the man i wanted to be. I got the honor of meeting Sammy Davis a couple times. That was a [beeep] of a guy and you Bob sound like a [beeep] of man too. Once again want to say its an honor to talk to you and say thanks. Im glad i served and i wouldnt trade it bit i dont ever want to do it again
