I am going to buy one of these units. Is the 612 quite a bit louder than the Prey master or are they comparable. Just did'nt know if i wanted to deal with lugging the 612 in and out of my hunting areas.

I dont know if its any louder but my preymaster sounds great.I cant wait till they come out with there remote modal.

I'm 5'6", 140#, 55 years old, have had 2 heart attacks and a quintuple bypass.....
If I can lug a 612 into the woods all day long, so can you!
Just get a lighter rifle! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

me!

I would also like some info on this. I am in the same situation. But ive also considered the preymaster/convert a call package.

ME,thats too funny /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.I'm also over 50 and lug around the 612,and yes its heavy but it still sounds good.I picked up a remote for it here in the classifieds for a good deal and that makes it a lot better for myself.Take care, daveyboy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Well, as I have said a time or two in other posts, I bought the 612 on the recommendation of the great folks at Johnny Stewart ( HS Now ). They told me that the preymaster was lighter yes, but in that you give up durability. You can also get every JS sound that is out there, you can't do that with the preymaster, you are limited to the sound cards. The cords for the speakers are a whole lot better quality on the 612. The sounds on the preymaster are recorded off of the tapes (that is what HS told me anyway ). I went with the 612, spent more money but I feel it was worth it. As far as toten the 612, it comes in a nice camo bag with a shoulder stap. I have 13 tapes, the call, speaker w/ 80' of cord, spare gloves, extra ammo, and a few hand calls in my bag. IN my opinion, if you are not going to spend the extra money for the FoxPro, buy the 612, it is so much more versital then the preymaster, In my Opinion!
An other point would be that the sounds only play for 60 seconds and then you have to push the button again, the 612 plays for 30 minutes of continuous sounds, to me if I have to keep pushing buttons every minute, then that is that much more movement, and that much more time I am not looking for coyotes and worring about the call.
Both calls will call coyotes if used correctly! I hope this helps, best of luck to you!

The sounds for both of the units come from the same master. The Preymaster does require repeated pushing of the button which I initially objected to in the development process, pushing for a switch that would make the unit continous loop for those who desired that. That is hard on the batteries and requires you to be with the playback unit. The 612 has a larger battery that is more condusive to continous play and you can set the unit away from you and it will play for 20 + hours on a full charge if you want it too due to it's auto repeat feature.

I have found that I rarely use the 612 unless I need a sound that is not yet available on the Preymaster or I need more volume. You will get as much as 112 DBs out of the 612 versus 104 from the Preymaster. Be careful in your comparisons of those ratings if you are looking at some of our competitors units.

We derived those performance ratings from using the accepted industry standard of metering from 1 meter. Others have derived their stats from evidently using other standards. I have metered other units claiming 118 to 125 DBs and the only way I could achieve the same ratings was to stick the the DB meter literally right in the speaker. If I did that with our testing I could easily achieve a much higher output performance for our unit but I choose not to because it is dishonest and unethical in my opinion.

You will find yourself wanting for more volume in the Preymaster in winds higher than 15 to 20 miles per hour unless you are calling in terrain that is more condusive to shorter moves between stands.

The Preymaster\Power Pro combo is a great alternative if the sounds you want are available on the Preymaster. By combining the Preymaster with the Power Pro amp you can still have light weight but with the additional power.

Thanks for your interest in our products.

Thanks GS, it is nice to have the support and knowledge of the makers on here. I purchased the preymaster and I like it's portability alot, I think it is plenty loud for my uses around arkansas since it is mostly flat terrain where I use it most.

I had a problem where mine wouldn't play sounds and wouldn't turn off recently and the support from them is awesome, called and they immediatly gave me a RA number to replace it with and it was refreshing experiance from the normal process I go through with my work rma'ing pc parts etc.

I too wish that it had a remote and more sound options, but like every new product. With more interest from consumers, the accesories will improve and grow in numbers. Our local retailer "Gander Mountain" carries very little predator calling "tools" and they never have the cards I need for my preymaster and I really want to get a decoy. I have been looking at outfoxed products and foxpro's decoy. But I'm not quite ready for either yet until I get my preymaster back.

I think I would like to see a PC sound download kit for the preymaster, sort of like the way foxpro does the FX3 model. I think that would make it very easy for hunters to get what they want. I would gladly pay $20 or more a year for access to the libary of downloadable sounds to put on a card for it. I would even be willing to help in development if approached.

Overall, great roduct at a very affordable price. GS is absolutley right about the sound. It is industry standard to measure 1w/1m. That is to set a microphone at ear level to a device at 1 watt of power at 1 meter distance. It is very common for companies to embelish those numbers by adding hot batteries and enhanced speakers during initial testing and then the retail product not be to the same spec. The preymaster is right on what GS says and I think it is plenty loud for me, and the neighborhood pets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

CJ, much of what you have suggested has been bantered about. I have pushed for a remote version as well as the download capability. At one point HS was on track to provide the consumers with the ability to load their own cartridges, but only with currently available Preymaster sounds. They ran into development problems with a vendor that set them back quite a bit.

The Bushwhacker remote caller got cancelled completely and other projects were delayed indefinately. I do not know when they will get back on track.

If I had my way with them completely, you would have already had those capabilities as well as all of the JS sounds available for the Preymaster. They need your input to help encourage them. Send them an email expressing what you want in the way of sounds or features. They may not respond with fast product development, but they are listening. It would help me in my effort to try to push them to what the consumers need on the Preymaster.

With the gun, shooting rest, fanny pack or day pack, Lightforce 170 and battery pack, I need a light weight caller. I have had some very good experiences with my preymaster and have had no trouble with it. Compared to a FX3, the preymaster has half the volume, but that really doesn't matter to me until it comes to Crow hunting. And then, I haven't hand any trouble calling in crow with it.

I am holding out for a remote caller for now becuase of the rumors of a remote Preymaster on the drawing table. I think Johnny Stewart sounds are some of the best out there and would really like to see if they come out with the remote unit. I would not hesitate in buying one.
