Primos Ki-Yi

Is the Ki-Yi call not meant to be blown on hard?I made a stand this morning and it seemed to make a squeek then nothing for me for awhile until I really lightened up on the air flow.I picked this call up from bass pro on friday so I havent had alot of time to mess with it but Ive seen Randy Anderson and Wooly use it quite often and really liked the sounds they could produce.

I use mine with the reed exposed and bite and lip the reed. Sounds a lot better and easier to control. Keep practicing and you will find what works best for you.

I have found the same problem or no sound at all. Thought I was blowing to hard, so I back off a little. My last stand I actually bent the reed out a little and that seemed to help. I will try to use it with the reed exposed this weekend.

Not sure what your trouble is I have a KiYi and it's one of my best calls. I never use mine with the reed exposed.
My ki-yi comes in two pieces, I pull them apart and move the o-ring on the reed all the way back, the sound is lower, Move the o-ring further out towards the end and the sound gets higher. With the o-ring out toward the end I can make a great estrous [beeep] chirp. Just blow short fast bursts of air. It also makes a great yip-yip-yip
With this call it don't take a lot of air. But I can do cottontail distress fawn distress and kiyi.
Is the o-ring missing from your call. Are there groves on the diagram so you can move the o-ring up and down on the reed.
good luck this is on of my favorite calls.
Mine is is-- Ki-Yi model no.315?????????????

This call works great,
Try to keep as much spit and moisture out of it as you can.
Try to use the tip of one of your front teeth and run it lightly down the reed.
Don't use your top lip at all,and rest it on your bottom lip.
Make sure angle it up at a 45 deg angle.
You can blow pretty hard into it.
Makes some super good Ki-Yi's.

Buy a coyote buster from elk Inc. Way at the tip you can ki-yi easy, howl, and rabbit distress. All on a simple open reed that stows in a neat little tube. I have a Primos Ki-yi and its rattling around under the bench seat with old sandwich wrappers.

I love my primos calls though and will support randy anderson since I have met him and he is a great person all around..Thats what makes me buy certain things.Customer service and the general attitude of the people.Ive never heard of the coyote buster, but IF I have alot of issues and cant figure the ki-yi out I might look into it.

I like the KiYi and it has called in a bunch of coyotes, but it will lockup in cold weather on me so I always have an open reed back-up handy. The KiYi has a great tone for an off the shelf chunk of plastic.
