And some Remington Express #2 shot. 30 yards. Remington 00 Buck Express 9 pellets. Target is a paper plate. Fired one shot 6 pellets hit and the other three were just off the right edge of the paper plate, pretty good. Federal Magnum 2 3/4 #1 Buck 20 pellets, old red and white box, could be 20 years old. Fired one shot, 15 pellets on paper plate the rest a little high, pretty good. Last Remington Express Long Range 1 1/4 oz #2 shot. Tight pattern evenly dispersed on paper plate, most pellets within 3/4 inch of each other. Can't say exactly how wide the pattern was but it would certainly have killed anything #2 shot is good for! Shotgun is a Maverick 88 28 inch barrel. Choke is listed to have a .660 inside diameter. By far the hardest kicking load was the Federal magnum #1 buck.

All the buckshot blasted through a 15/16th's plywood backing for the paper plate. I looked for the 20 pellet #1 buck 2 3/4 inch loading but it is no longer available.

Going to order some Fiochi High velocity nickel plated #4 buck 27 pellet to test and hopefully use, Ten rounds for less than $6.00! I am going to use the #2 shot on my raccoon problem as soon as it cools off a bit! Anyone think this load would make a good 40 yard deer load if placed in the head/neck area? Meaning the #4 buckshot. Poor non linear writing!

For me copper coated lead #2 shot did not perform very good at all on 20 to 30 pound coyotes. There is no way I would try shooting deer with lead #2 shot.

If deer were the targeted species I'd work with the No. 1 Buck load. No. 1 Buck is a great all around buckshot load that does a lot of things right when you get bigger than coyote sized critters.

I usually hunt from my bow stands after gun season starts and in the East Texas national forests seeing past 25 yards is not possible most of the time. The deer have learned to look up and a quick shot is all you get. On top of this there is a 13 inch inside spread rule! Meaning I don't shoot at buck unless they are pretty big. Add to this that it is still plenty warm enough for the many snakes to be out a shotgun is a proper tool to carry. The result I got from the Tight Wad choke are far better than any other shotgun choke combination I have tried. I have four shotguns and they mostly wouldn't perform this well at 25 yards, maybe not even 20 yards!

I have seen and I have done it myself, 40+ yards on deer with #4 buck. My Dad was a #1 buck fan and along with the horse shoe he had up his butt made a few kills that I wouldn't have believed if a buddy of mine hadn't seem them. I haven't used a shotgun for deer in over 20 years.
