Problem Squirrels!!!!!!!!! HELP

This may not be the best place for this post, but I think I might have a problem with two squirrels. Two of the little peckerheads have decided to winter under the eve on my home. There is a small hole under the eve and that is where they are coming and going. I had no idea sqirrels could climb so easily up and down a stucco facing. Unfortunately this is also the tallest point of the house and I do not have a ladder high enough to possibly board up the entrance. If in the upstairs bedroom you can here the little SOB's running around. I am in town, so shooting them while climbing the stucco is out of the question. If I still had a BB gun it might be doable. Can I trap them down on the ground? If this is going to cost me money, trap or BB gun, I will opt for the BB gun. Better use of the money for me anyway. Is there a poison on the market I could get them with? Is there a rat trap big enough to handle a squirrel? I just want the little bastards gone. I am guessing I have a male and a female, and by spring who knows how many I might have. If any of you have ideas please let me know.

Thanks,
Brent

Borrow/buy a live trap and put it in the attic. Bait with acorns, or walnuts, whatever you have handy. You should have a scuttle access in an upstairs closet. I would avoid poison, a couple dead tree rats in your attic, will smell really bad.

Ridgeviewer,

Would there be any way to trap them outside on the ground? Reason I ask is the house is brand-new and the access panel to the attic is very nicely caulked and painted shut. I really don't want to pop the lid if I don't absolutely have to.

Brent

You need to get up there one way or another... to fill the hole or trap the squirrells. If its that new you could probably call the builder and complain about his error! Trapping them outside would be pretty exhausting, you'd probably catch 600 squirrels before you got the ones you're after! LOL!

Ok, First I want you to inspect the scuttle really close. I'm a Builder and have done 100's of scuttles. Bear with me.... Usually you have a frame, picture framed with door casing. This is always backfilled/caulked to the drywall in a professional paint job. The lid is never caulked to the frame, or the builder would get 100's of call backs from customers, (I can't get in my attic you %#^%$*$#$). Believe me, we hate that. Try lifting the lid straight up gently, then reply to this thread again. I'll get ya through this, even if you have to buy me a plane ticket, and an elk tag, to come fix it....lol

JRB, Sit there and be quiet.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif We'll get to the hole once were in the attic.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ridgeviewer,

LOL!!! Alright, I will check the scuttle when I get home. Scuttle; that is a new word to add to my vocabulary. I will check it out and get back to you. Might not be until Monday with my response. So could these little bastards have access to the entire attic? I am thinking if I get up there, they will be contained to just the overhang on this section of the house. Does that make any sense?? I sure hope this doesn't turn into a huge problem!!!

Brent

Brent, we have always just called the attic access, a scuttle hole...lol After we determine the lid situatuon, I'll figure out if they can get in your attic, using your eyes... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Why don't you send me a Private Message, and we'll figure out a time for you to call me on the phone. I'll walk you through figuring this mess out.

Never, never use gas and a match to light the lil bas-urds on fire, you'll regret it for a long time to come.;-)

I'm just kiddin, buy a live trap load it with acorns, nuts and peanut butter. I have caught many coon, possum, skunk, housecat, etc. They work like a charm and are quite handy for future varmint problems too. Freinds from all around will borrow it and owe you a beer in return, all around a good investment.

Ridge...it sounds to me like they deputies for this squirrel invasion. Now...it will be an inconvieniance for me, but if there is an Elk tag involved, well, I'll make the sacrifice and volunteer my services. I'll be the "Scuttle hole" look out guy. I'll bring my cathcers mask and some badmittin raquets. Bring the little demons on!

Good Call Deputy Mock. I'll close you in the attic with a badminton racket, turkey baster,1 can of scalding hot pie filling, coal miners headlamp, and a set of water skis (Less chance of you falling through the ceiling). Then, I will repel down from the roof, tie off at the vermin entrance hole, and hold a burlap bag in place.. It is at this point that your actions must be swift and deadly. Proceed within range of the vermin, and baste them with the scalding hot pie filling. If you've ever put your thumb into a hot pie, you'll know what to expect from the squirells. Now that you have rousted the squirells into a frenzy, begin to violently swarp anything fury with the badminton racket. Upon subduing the rascals, push their corpses down the hole, and into my waiting burlap bag, for disposal. And for the love of God, try not to screw it up! Remember the sparrow incident...nuff said.

I dang near got sued over the sparrow incident. That's back when I was wearing the fish costume in the hen house. Man...did that get ugly in a hurry.

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, If your gonna tell it, tell it right. You smelled like a fish, in the hen house, and THAT is why the lady was so mad about the sparrow. I guess a bird in hand, is NOT always better than 2 in the bush!

Oh man, you guys are kill'n me. Stop it, stop it. LOL
Brent13, I went thru the same thing many years ago. My wife and I were renting an upstair apartment from her godmother and we had squirrels. About a half dozzen. I tried crawling up into the eves with my 22 pistol, 3 or 4 times and I could'nt get the suckers, they knew I was there. I did get a couple of shots off but I could'nt get one. I watched them in the early morning. They would come down the house every day at the same time. The apartment was in a urban area and shooting out side would get me arrester so what I did was open up a window, stand on a chair so I could shoot down with my 22 rifle. The muzzle was 4 feet back from the window so the noise stayed inside the room. It took 3 days but I finished every one of the little @#$%. Then we sealed up the hole. This will give you great satisfaction and sharpen your shooting skills.
Enjoy! Ha!

ALrght, I am back. Sorry for the delay. I still have squirrels. The scuttle is painted, caulked, and nailed shut it appears. I am not going to try and pop this panel off at this point. I tried to push it up, but it does not budge. I have a trap. I am borrowing from a friend and look forward to trapping the little peckerheads. I am going to trap outside, at the base of the wall they are scaling to access the house. We shall see what I catch. Whatever goes in the trap is going to enjoy about a 10 mile drive out east and then released. Cats, squirrels, whatever is going for a drive. I will keep you all posted.

Thanks,
Brent

We had the same problem with squirrells several years ago at our house. Just get a BB gun and shoot the little devils! Just be careful where you are shooting and make sure that no neighbors are out!

Whatever you do get rid of them before they cause some serious damage. Our squirrells chewed through wires and we were dam lucky that it didnt burn the house down. Cost a couple thousand worth of damage overall to get everything fixed.

My trap has yet to produce a squirrel. The damn mice ate my bait the first two nights; peanut butter and sunflowers seeds. I took care of the mice on the third night. I snapped 4 with a mouse trap and haven't had anymore the past few nights. The squirrel trap is not getting any action though. I have it baited with sunflower seed and peanuts. I have had it on the ground, directly below the part of the house that they enter and exit. I then moved to an upstairs window, resting on a planter box. I now have it on the deck. Still no action. Is there a more enticing bait out there? I haven't seen the little peckers for a week, but insulation has been coming out of the whole they are living in. I can't imagine they would have left their new home???
