Problem w/ Prairie Blaster

I recently purchased a Prairie Blaster. The first time I took it out it operated correctly for about 30 seconds then made a very loud hornlike sound and went quiet. After that I had to power the unit down before it would make another sound. After testing the unit I have discovered that if I take the volume to 28 or higher it quits the sound requested and makes the loud horn/buzz sound. Does anyone have any suggestions or know if this is a common problem and how do I fix it?

I haven't as they were new, but I will. I sent Foxpro and e-mail today so hopefully they will get back to me after the holiday weekend.

At the risk of insulting your intellegence... new batteries need to be fully charged before using them. They will have some "juice" in them but not nearly a full charge.

The batteries were regular alkaline. I haven't gone the recharchable route as of yet and no worries of insulting any intelligence; if I was worried about that I wouldn't ever ask a question. Thanks for the reply.......

Most foxpro calls state in the manual not to use alkaline batteries. I'm not sure if this is the case but in one of my past calls I used alkaline batteries and experienced about the same thing that you stated. Check the manual for reccommended batteries.

Ditto Whiteknuckle, my Fury says:

"We strongly recommend high capacity NiMH rechargeable batteries over alkaline types for maximum performance, particularly when using loud volume levels."

Might be a simple soultion to your issue.

I use the Prairie Blaster SLA Battery Kit in my Prairie Blaster instead of "D" cell batteries. The SLA Kit with the charger has worked great for me. No battery problems so far.

The simple answer is to call FOXPRO on tuesday and tehy will take care of the problem without question.

Easy and simple.

Thanks for the information everybody. I will post the results after talking with Foxpro and experimenting w/ other battery options in case others experience this in the future. Thanks again...

At least 6 hours, the SLA battery has not gone dead on me yet. I am also using a SP-55 external speaker.

I always charge the battery when I get home from a day of calling and then put the battery on the charger again just before I go calling the next time.

Just wanted to follow up with the results. After I purchased the SLA battery, problem has gone away. Also wanted to share another learning experience concerning this call. As this is my first "higher tech" call, it has been quite interesting playing with all of the features. As an FYI to those out there when you are transferring new sounds or changed order of sounds from the unit to the remote; the unit needs to be disconnected from your computer. Otherwise the remote does not get the correct information and it is unreadable and won't work with the unit. If this happens to you, unplug the unit from the computer and try it again and everything works out fine. Don't have an anxiety attack like I did
