I have never in the past payed much attention to going thru a regimented break in cycle for my rifles. However this is an interesting line of thought that I would like more information on. What is the proper method of breaking in a new rifle barrel? I have seen those TAUB slugs that you can get through Cabelas, but didn't know enough to use them. Or is the break in method more a series of shots and cleanings at designated periods? Any help here would help a bunch Thanks - Striker

Yes, see the post "Barrel break in works!" That's a good description of the shoot/clean cycle most people are using. Stayaway from abrasives and "fire lapping" slugs, they'll kill your barrel life and accuracy.

Like Evil_Lurker said, check out the post I made in the Firearms and Reloading section titled: Barrel Break In Works!!!!!

I tried it for the first time yesterday and it worked amazingly well. Good Luck.
