Me and my father are going to be around the Laramie area this summer and I was looking at maybe coyote hunting on some public access areas around that area. Is it worth me taking out my gear for or should I skip it? Going out there in July. Thanks for any input.

This could get to be a hot topic. Dealing with shooting coyotes with young pups.

I personally wouldn't do it for sport. I would wait until around November, but that is just my view on it.

The south east section of the state doesn't have a whole lot of public access and it gets hunted pretty hard. I haven't worked my way over to the snowy mountains to call yet, but I know that south of there in Colorado can be productive. If you go a few hours north from Laramie it opens up to a lot more public.

On the side note mentioned above, my buddy said his dad and brother have lost some more calves this past couple weeks so we are going calling on their ranch this week. As soon as the coyotes stop taking calves and fawns I'll stop taking coyotes.

calling coyotes in july?? [beeep] it will be in the 90's out there can't imagine wasting my time gathering up all my gear and hunting there that time of year. lots of private land around there.

What about some trout fishing? There are some really good trout areas up in the mountains from there. I love hunting yotes, but come july a fly or worm in a stream, bare feet and a fish fry are as good as it gets.

The last time we came across I80 from the west we finally saw a couple of road kill coyotes at around thirty miles west of Laramie. Just about the only dead 'yotes we saw in our return to Wyo. Don't know how much of that area is private. See them dead along there every year for the last 5 though.

I'm sure it would be possible to call in a yote or 2. With the temps that time of year it would probably have to be first thing in the morning. There is some BLM about a hr north of Laramie.
You might have better luck trout fishing. Look over near Encampment/Saratoga area on the North Platte River. Several access points w/ plenty of areas to fish from the bank.

Well maybe instead of the guns I will bring out the fishing pole. My old man is learning how to fly fish so this might be a good time to try it out for him. Thanks for the responses.
