Public School vs Private School vs. Home Schooling - your opinion is needed

mjirole, Thank's I really like my job.

drscott, I started on the river on Dec,12 1999 and quickly figured out that I wanted to be a pilot. It's mandatory that you have to work on the river for nearly 4 year's before you can even attempt to get a Pilot Lic. so I was constantly trying to learn everything I could. I aggrevated alot of pilot's during that 4 year period I'm sure but it helped me when it came time to take all those test.

I think for the people that choose to home school their kid's it is'nt just about academic's. At home our kid's don't have to walk through metal detector's and have cop's patrolling our living room's. No worrie's about little Johnny bringing gun's or little Abby being shown how to put a condom on a penis. We can have our bible laying on the coffee table w/out ridicule just to name a few. I think for alot of us it goes way beyond academics.
This is a pretty good poem.

NEW SCHOOL PRAYER .

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend some with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God’s name is prohibited by the state.

We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can a pregnant Senior Queen,
And ‘unwed daddy,’ as our Senior King.
It’s “inappropriate” to teach right from wrong,
We’re taught such “judgments” do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed.
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It’s scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school’s a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; my soul please take!
Amen

Chris,

I think it is easier to point fingers than to try to fix the system. That is all I said. I don't get into the religion, sex, drugs, and guns debate when it comes to public schools. By the way you or me either one don't know what caused those kids to behave the way they did. As for the "bad" well you may not have used the word but you definitely wanted everyone to understand that they were not good people. The boy is a big time drug user/dealer... Sorry, but I have never meet a nice drug dealer in my entire life. By the way drugs are rampant in the mountains now and they weren't a generation ago. Whether it is bad influences or the Mommy didn't love me syndrome I don't know, and I came from this new generation that just wants to get high. My own opinion is that it is more a less a cultural problem everywhere, and the more economically depressed an area is the more likely drug use will be higher. Now that is a little off subject so lets get back to it. Drug dealers don't exactly equal good my friend. the girl is loose as a goose and all over the place with a ton of issues... Loose as a goose where I come from means she is a wh*re for lack of better word and I don't normally equte these people as being good either. So you definitely wanted everybody to look at these examples Chris and think that public school had caused them to be "bad".

Also I know you are not pointing your finger at teachers or even me. However, I think the solution to the problems schools are facing both public and private is more complicated, and you can't just do away with one, and hope our future generations will get a good education because they want to. Homeschooling has a place as well, but I think too many look at it as the cure all. It's not!

Now I feel a bit like a broken record Chris so that is all I am going to say, and although I will probably read your response don't be surprised if I don't respond. It's not because I am upset, but simply because I feel it is time to move on before this thread becomes like the other education thread 8 plus pages long.

Again about the 2 kid's I said it might be the product of bad influences (peers) not so much the teacher's or public school system causing them to be bad. I know that there are alot of good people that come from public school's and there are probably kid's from home schooling that are bad people.
I caught on the new's last night that kids were suspended from school for wearing t-shirts with the american flag on them? I did'nt catch the entire story but what's next? Can't say the pledge of alligance, can't say the lord's prayer or even pray at all. I'm sure you know what i'm getting at. But you right, this is getting a little repetitive and I believe I will bow out as well. Good hunting!
