Pulled down 7.62 LC brass

So these are new cases that were pulled down. (bullet removed, powder dumped) and they still have primers of un-known manufacture in place. I plan on full length resizing and trimming these before loading but not sure what to do about the existing primers. Do I remove the live primers, leave them alone and re-size with them in place, or shoot the empty cases to burn the primers before removing them and processing the new brass. I'm not sure what I will put into my rifle bore by just shooting the empty cases but it could be good trigger practice just shooting the primers out. What would you do? I have 250 cases to process if that matters but time isn't really a factor.

I just neck resize on those. New cases shouldn't need trimming. You could FL size with the primer in place by taking out the decapping PIN, not the ROD, and going about it that way but I see no cause for it myself. I've loaded several thousands of primed pull downs over the years with no issues. Remember that being military cases they are probably crimped primers so that is another chore to deal with down the road.

If it were commercial brass, I would just deprime as if they were fired. Being military cases the primer is probably crimped in unless they are match cases. Being crimped the primer may detonate while depriming. As noted, I would remove the decapping pin and full length resize. Then load with your favorite recipe. noting that military brass with a standard max load may be excessive due to less case capacity. Just my .02 cents worth.

^^^^^^^^^^This. + Reduce powder charge (Some books suggests 1-2 gr.) during load development due to less case capacity of GI brass.

AHH, Where is Catshooter.

He did the research and showed that GI brass does NOT have less capacity.

But, with all loading changing components it is always safe practice to reduce loads and work back.

If you will read the last two lines on page 534 of Sierra Edition V, 6th printing loading manual abov, it states:
Quote: If military brass is used for reloading, the charges should be reduced by oneto two grains.

I rely on Sierra (and other powder & bullet makers') manual(s) for recommended charges, why would I not rely on same manuals when they advise one case has less capacity than another? Just sayin'.

ETA: Perhaps catshooter was referring to 5.56 x 45 compared to civilian brass??

Additionally, I weighed several .308 sized, deprimed and trimmed WW cases and several equally prepped LC 15 cases and the average weight of the LC cases was >17 gr. heavier than the WW. While this is not absolute proof of less case capacity, it does seem to support the theory so did not bother to check water capacity of ea.

If they are 7.63x39, quit pulling them down. Send me the loaded ammo to shoot and I'll send you the empty brass when I get done shooting them.

Does LC make 7.62x39? I just assumed it was some of the 7.62 NATO pulldowns that has hit the market lately.

Bet that suppressed AK is a ball to shoot. How accurate is it w/handloads?

Haven't even pulled the trigger on it since the form 1 came through and I put the stock on it. I'm running into some problems with the can and mounting. Not sure I'll be able to run it with the can as is. Not really wanting to do any machining. Was just kind of an afterthought since I purchased the .338 can. Probably won't load for this one. Just shoot whatever I can get cheap.

And it probably is 7.62 NATO. Just figured I'd throw that in there.
