Pulsar Thermion XQ50

Yes, the Thermion XQ50 was announced at shot show. It should have the benefit of the better quality display and V2 sensor improvements.

I have not used a thermion. However everything I have read says it is an improvement from the past. It is listed as AMOLED color Microdisplay with 1024x768 pixel resolution.

Is it true, it seems that Pulsar wanted to take a step back, perhaps the Thermion XM50 has too much exaggerated magnification (5.5X declared, 5.38X calculated with the Crop Factor, taking as reference 1.9X of the XP50 model) and a really very FOV narrow 4.4 ° x3.3 °. But it has a fantastic ID = 1735 pixels / square-yard at a distance of 100 yards. But also the conflicting impressions of you, dear American night hunter friends, have slightly confused me. Ohiolongarm had taken the Thermion XM50, had enthusiastically described the device as exceptional. I had almost decided to buy it, just waiting to see at least one video recorded by him in the coyotes hunting ground. Instead, unexpectedly, to my surprise, he returned the Thermion XM50 (he was unable to get used to thermal vision) and took the NV Pulsar Digex. At this point I await your impressions on the new Thermion XQ50 (declared 3.5X, but only 3.17X calculated with the Crop Factor). It has an average FOV of 7.5 ° x5.6 °. It has an ID = 862 pixels / square-yard at a distance of 100 yards (very close to the value 869 of XP50, which we now know for sure has NETD

At this point I ask myself the question, if for a moment we don't take into consideration the cost factor, isn't it better to focus on the purchase of the top XP50 model (as G Anderson did)? It has a similar or even slightly higher ID, but it has a wide FOV (12.4 ° x9.3 ° as you American hunters like so much ...); if you zoom in continuous mode you can still get to 3.2X-3.5X but perhaps with a higher image quality (having NETD

Thanks Korey for the precise explanation, as always .... As for the color display, you were absolutely right. Sorry I wrote a big fool, it is obvious that the display must be in color and hd, without needing to be explicitly written in the features. It was enough for me to read "amoled" and I had to understand immediately. I'm not looking for excuses, but today I had a hard day. The veterinary told me that my only excellent hunting dog (female) has a tumor and will have to die. I practically finished hunting. I'm not ashamed to tell you, but today I cried. As for the choice of the XQ50, I agree with you. I will never use 1.9X of the XP50. Do you think that in my opinion it is already little 3.2X! I would need 4X as your Flir PTS536 has. The regret remains that the XQ50 probably does not have the sensor with NETD

Sorry to hear about your hunting dog as that is really sad news.

Based on Pulsar documentation, the Thermion XQ50 and the Trail2 XQ50 will be at 3.5x base/native/optical magnification. I think they should work well for medium to long range work. You could always move up to the XM but in my opinion, the XQ will most likely have a better looking overall image just based on videos that I have seen to date as well as what I saw at Shot Show.

On my Thermion XP50 when we are hunting wide open spaces I usually run the magnification around 3x to 4.5x and see no degradation in the image...that is what really blew me away about the Thermion. I do have a video that I was able to remember to hit the record button that I ran the scope on 3.2x and bumped it to 3.4x before making the shot. I remember the first time out after finally getting the Thermion that I ran the scope up to 6x and made a 414yd kill...of course, I did not hit the record button, so no video of that. At 6x it was starting to get pixelated. In tight cover the 1.9x is great. I am really impressed.
If I knew how to post the video on the site I would put it out there, but am challenged when it comes to that.

I think that Thermion XQ50 - is one of the best things they've made recently. But honestly, I would better choose something from AGM company, like thermal sight AGM ASP TM75-336 , which I've got on their official website ( in here: https://www.agmglobalvision.com/thermal-imaging ). It is one of the most powerful thermal sights they have to choose. I can highly recommend it.

Dear guys, I ask you a courtesy ... I just can't activate the Italian subtitles.

Could you give here a brief summary of what they say in this video in which they compare XP50, XQ50, XM50? Looking at the images, it seems to me that those recorded with XM50 are not well defined. They have disappointed me a little. But I don't think they activated the Image Detail Boost function, perhaps in any of the 3 devices. If Image Detail Boost were active, it seems to me that you should see a small diamond-shaped icon. But I'm not sure. I thank you all in advance. Today I am even sadder than yesterday. The vet told me that Maya cannot be operated on. So he has to suppress it. In this way, an 11-year-old companion of hunting and life goes through the countryside. I will no longer be able to take long walks through the hills, plains and woods of Croatia hunting for wood pigeons, woodcocks, pheasants, hares, Virginia strains. But in the end what really matters is that you are all well and far away from the coronavirus, which killed more people in the US than the rest of the world. I embrace you all.

It doesn't appear any image boost was used on any of the scopes. The XM doesn't surprise me. This type of image is what I have come to expect out the 12-micron 320 res sensors including the Axion and the Thermion XMs. I do think they could have focused the XM better.

I think it is kind of humorous how they almost have to apologize or say the image wasn't focused enough to justify why the XP doesn't look as good as the XQ when they increased the zoom. I agree it could be some of it, but it just confirms what I have written on numerous occasions. The XP is more versatile but if you spend all or almost all of the time using digital zoom, you could have saved money and gone with the XQ.
