PVS 14 First focal plane or Second focal plane

Need advice on a new scope for ar. Anyone tell me which plane is better? Is is true that FFP scopes are dead zero at all powers? i am looking at a viper ffp 4-16-50 Thanks for the help..

PVS14 is a Night Vision unit.

FFP the RET. subtends correctly at all powers were SFP the RET. only subtends correctly at one set power. Most scopes are made in SFP. Over all I prefer FFP.

SFP scopes are good for:
Bench Rest / F-Class Shooting
Hunters in thick brush

FFP scope you can:
Rang at any power
Do holdover shot at any power

Hope this helps.

thanks for the info. I should have been more clear. I am looking to put the pvs 14 behind the a scope and trying to decide which is better. FFP or SFP. With the FFP when you zoom in does the target or object get bigger...basically i want to know what happens when you start zooming in with the ffp.

with the pvs 14 i want to zoom as much as I can so i can pick shot placement on coyote.

the reticle will get bigger the more you zoom... If you want to zoom in to full magnification and have the x hairs stay the same, you need to look @ 2nd focal.

The reticle appears to get bigger but it actually stays the same size relative to your target in an FFP scope. In other words, if the cross hair covers 1/2 inch of your target at 100 yards, it will cover 1/2 inch at 500 yds., no matter what the magnification is. Your target and reticle maintain the same relationship.

If the cross hair covers 1/2 inch of your target at 100 yards, it will cover 2-1/2 inches at 500 yds., no matter what the magnification is.

If the cross hair covers 1/2 inch of your target at 100 yards it will always cover 1/2 inch at 100 yards, no matter what the magnification is.
