Question about a Ruger MK III pistol

I am looking into purchasing a Ruger MKIII pistol. I have never been much into pistols, (I own a few, reload for them, and they give me much enjoyment when they go bang). I have a few questions about these pistols that I know you guys know the answers to.

1- What is the difference if it is a 22/45?

2- What is the benefit of a slabside vs. a hunter w/ a fluted barrel?

3- Is there a particular model that is the most accurate for target shooting?

And I suppose #4 would be does anyone know what a good deal is on one?

Get whatever feels good to you. A heavy barrel is a bit steadier. If you want to shoot formal matches they will put you in a class where you compete with similar guns. For informal shooting, it doesn't matter much. There are some good deals on used Ruger pistols to be had.

There are alot of specialty versions, and even a few copy cat pistols like my AMT Lightning shown here.

I've got the hunter model with the fluted barrel, and have yet to even load the magazines. I've been shooting something else lately. As far as price, I gave $455 for mine, and later (4 months) saw one in the same store for $430. Gander mountain was about $100 higher.

I have the hunter also, love to shoot it. As the cost of all ammo goes up, I find some releif in shooting the 22's a bit more.
 
I bought a used MKII a couple of years back. I think it's the target model.My most accurite pistol and cheapest to shoot. It's my only 22 pistol at the moment.

I think the MKIII relocated the mag release or something. Seemed to be an inprovement. My friend borrowed mine and now he says his wife won't let go of it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I have 2 of the slab side pistol's a mk2 and a mk3 and i love them. I like the 3 a little more because of the mag release and the weaver stile scope mount, the 2 comes with the ruger rings.On another note i would stay away from the 22/45 unless you are practicing for shooting your 1911. It is easier to find parts, mags and grips for the regular luger grip.I have a 2-7 on both of mine and they put squirlls on the table every year!!
