Question about Coyote Pack?

Hi, I'm brand new to this forum.
I need a quick answer about a Coyote Pack,
(I haven't had time to read all the great info here yet).

If I shoot at one in the pack, will the others 'remember' and not return for a long time?

I have a pack of coyotes (5+ confirmed by gamecamera) that are regularly preying on my livestock(chickens) at night (in the North-Texas area).

Should I wait till I can have a few buddies over (all shoot at once), or can I pick them off one at a time (over several nights, if necessary).

I need to 'strike while the iron is hot' so to speak, so haven't had time to read all in the forum here (this Q's probably been answered 100 times already), and as such, I appreciate replies from the experts here.

I'm not an expert but,
My answer would be:

You're probably not going to call in 5 at one time, yes it is possible & there are guys on here that have called in more than that at one stand but its not likely. Singles & pairs are the most common.

I dont recommend having any more than 3 people on a stand while calling, 2 is best in my opinion. If you get to many people on a stand your success is going to be limited, too much noise, scent, etc. Not to mention the safety factor.

Also, dont forget that you can call during the day as well.
 
Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post:

I'm not questioning if they can be 'called': a whole pack is already coming in every night! ! This is into a field on the back of my property; I have plenty of good stand spots within range (barn, 2ndfl-house, etc and can easily and safely accomodate multiple simultaneous shooters).

I just haven't started shooting yet.

Will shooting (just 1) permanently scare the whole pack away, or will they keep coming back?? This is the question.

If shooting (just 1) by myself will permanantly scare the whole pack away, I'd just as soon wait till weekend and have my brother and another buddy over , and take at least three out at once. Any ideas??
 
My guess is they will stay in their home territory. I would continue to go after them until they are all gone. At least you'll get some enjoyment out of it.
 
Even if all 5 come and into shotgun range of your stands you will have a tuff time shooting them after the first shot is fired as they head for cover. Unles one yelps they will likely head for safety as fast as lightning. Also a friend might get excited and shoot early. Let them get close and then let it fly.

As far as that scaring them I do not think so. Some of the sites I hunt by calling have fresh tracks after two animals are taken and in the same area of the stand.

If you shoot one or two give it a break and see if they come back after a couple days. You might want to see if trapping is an option (legally) and target them on a different level once educated.

yeah, if my livelyhood was being affected by coyotes i would be laying some steele down.hunting is fun and effective but trapping is where its at if you really want to wipe them out.
 
Yes they will remember, however they will also remember where the food sorce is. The only way to stop them is to start removing them, if you can get more than one at a time, great, if not do the best you can. A trap line can help with your problem for a while. blue
 
Gentlemen, thank you for all your answers.

By your answers and some reasoning, I have concluded that they will not be 'scared' out of their home territory (by shooting one). I will take my time then, and start taking them out one by one, and will look into using some traps too.
