Question about FOXPRO 416B - is it obsolete?

I am considering buying one of these. I have only used hand calls and mouth calls in the past, but I'm curious and don't want to satisfy my curiosity to the tune of $500.00 or more!
I also don't want to buy useless obsolete equipment.
What say ye on this unit?
Also, what about the accessory PG-1A Recorder? It has the TX-1 REMOTE EUC. What is the average range of this?
Need advice, but, please keep in mind, I can't afford a newer Foxpro.
If this unit is not so great, how about the Johnny Stewart Preymaster 4?
It's only $99.00 at Cabelas right now.
Or, the Western Rivers Electronic MP3 Predation?
How do these 3 compare?

I dont consider them obsolete, Doesnt have all the bells and whistles But still a good machine. I called in and harvested hundreds of coyotes with a 416 , If i still had one i would use it .
The PGA is kinda hard to find BUT i know there are still some out there . That lil caller is still a great tool .
Adverage range for remote if caller is elevated 150 yrds no problem , much farther then you need to set it out.
Preymaster is a good caller , I would steer clear of the Western Rivers , I have never been impressed with them .

I have a 600.00 fury and still won't sell my 416 B it's the first Foxpro I ever purchased and has been a great little caller it does what it needs too do to call in predators the volume is pretty loud and the remote works fairly well but works better if you elevate the caller in a bush or something. The PG 1A adapter is a neat tool to go along with this caller it allows you to record your own hand calls and put them onto the 416 unit. Mine holds 16 sounds and runs off 4 AA batteries. If the price is right on the one your looking at it will still work for calling in stuff. It all boils down to how many bells and whistles you want on your e caller the 416 is very user friendly and simple to learn on. Hope this helps God bless Skinner

Exactly right. The 416 is no more obsolete than the hand call.

I have been using a 416 until this season. I broke down and got a fury during the off season, but I still have my 416.

No caller lasts longer on 4 AA batteries than the 416. You can easily call for week or more calling all day every day. I also find the remote much easier to use than the fury remote especially as my eyes get worse.

They are light weight, dependable, long battery life and carry more sounds that most people really need to call predators.

Still pack the 416 on everystand with me. Been doing more hand calling but it still gets used on days and still calls them in.

Sounds good! And THANKS!!!

The 416B was my first digital caller. I love it.. Fits in the front pocket of my hunting jackets and still works great. I've updated to an FX 3 then to an FX 5, but still keep my 416B for a backup. It rides in my pocket and always comes in handy when my FX 5 batteries suddenly die on a stand.
