Question for the Winchester guru's

I've been beating the internet and even called Winchester today but still searching for answers. I have a Model 70 XTR in 222. I did find out today that it was made in 1979 but I would like to know approximately how many were produced. Internet, Gunbroker and a few other places say this is a rare caliber and scarce. I just seem to be lost on who to call for more information. Any idea's?

Try googling Win Model 70 Forums.

Here's one I just looked up, there are more.

While it is an uncommon chambering it isn't all that rare, I shoot one and I believe Trapperman in WA shoots one also. Mine is old enough but not pre-64 that it is built on a long action model 70. Mine was re imported from Europe and is threaded for a can.

Mine as I bought it. I need to shoot a youth length stock so instead of cutting it I bought a late synthetic stock and cut it and saved the original. I also bought a set of Model 70 target spring and brought the trigger pull down to a nice crisp, light trigger pull.

After stock and trigger work.
