question on the decapping pin in the FL sizer die

Any problem w/ removing it? I have a Lee universal decapping die that is mounted on a second press that is used solely for decapping. Since I do not decap w/ my more expensive sizing dies is it ok to remove decap pin, or does the pin actually help w/ concentric allignment of brass to sizer button?
I do have a 2nd question- with all my checks for case neck thickness, case neck run out , and bullet run out I hold myself to no more than .002, maybe .003 at times. Is that a decent goal, for accurizing my loads at the range the best I can, or should I be looking for .001 max? Not BR shooting as of yet, but maybe one day I could take that sport up. Thanks in advance.

Why remove the decapping pin? Does it get in the way?

If you hold to .002 or .003, are you turning necks?

What equipment are you using?

No, the decap pin does not get in the way, but if not needed, why not remove? Still curious on the possible what ifs on that.
As far as my equipment, everything I use is all rcbs except for a Wilson case trimmer,a pact scale, a Redding neck guage, and a Hornady concentric check tool; the one that can fix bullet run out. All dies for my rifles are rcbs competition dies. Like I mentioned, the only die that is different is my Lee decap die. I load one @ a time. Mainly for 7-08, 30-06, and 22-250.
The .002 to maybe .003 that I average on in my neck thickness and neck run out are cases that have not yet been neck turned. Worse I ever got was .005 runout on necks

I use an RCBS universal decapping die like you on an extra c-press.

I do not size the inside of my case neck. The ball can bend your case neck and add to run out.

I only use bushing dies for my bolt rifles. I do not turn necks. I buy one lot of brass "100" I load and keep that lot for one rifle. When the primer pockets get to big. I buy a new brass.

I like boat tail bullets. I like Lapua brass.

No problem - I remove them from ALL of my sizing dies.

If you are holding yourself to 0.002 to 0.003 thou, you're doing far better than you need ot.

Don't worry, be happy!

Third question- something that just came to mind: If on my Redding neck guage as I roll the brass and one side of the neck reads .003 and 180 degrees on the other side of the neck it reads .001 is it safe to say I am @ .002 average? Or that is a candidate for the neck turning to even out? I know that there are a lot of loaders out there that don't particularly believe in neck turning, especially if not BR shooting, but I am seeking knowledge for later on if I ever get into it. Might as well practice since I have the equipment.

I am not saying you are wrong or not. Could you school me on the specifics of how it would / could bend a case neck.

I lube the [beeep] out of the inside of the mouth of the case so as to limit the stretching the case when I bring the expander button out. Can the case be stretched when the expander button is pulled back out when sizing? I my self have no idea if it can happen or not. I just know the button comes out a [beeep] of a lot easier when the case mouth is well lubed. I have never tried to measure this to see if it happens or not.

You can PM me if you want.

Thanks.

If you are not shooting benchrest, with groups in the ones and twos, you are wasting valuable time that you could spend doing something worthwhile.

JUST my .02 Cents worth

JUST my .02 Cents worth I stated earlier that BR shooting is something I would like to get into, and since I have the tools, it made sense to practice. Besides, reloading and its processes is very worthwhile to me; its the greatest hobby!!

I enoy processing the brass. I use emery cloth to turn the ball down just a bit and polish it. Don't need that thing changing the properties of the neck or streching the brass once it has been sized.
