Questions about hog hunting and trapping in west texas

My sons and I have been offered to hunt and trap hogs on some land around snyder texas. They are going to provide the land and even the traps if we will just take care of them. They just want to get rid of as many as possible as are most landowners I think.

Just looking for some advice on what sort of bait is used in these traps and any secrets or advice anyone would like to share. I am just excited to be able to spend some time outdoors with my boys (3).

If this is the wrong forum, I could use some direction, this is all pretty new to me.

We put a corn feeder over the trap. Let it stay awhile with the trap unset. Then set the trap. You will catch more. If you shoot one in the trap, scrape up the blood, then squirt diesel fuel on the blood and the trail. Pigs like diesel! Old pigs smelling pig blood will usually ruin the area in my neck of the woods. Anyway, thats what we do.

soured wheat works well . corn also, but you feed coons, turkeys and the ocassional deer with it.set your traps next to established travel corridors or feeding areas .BE CAREFULL !!!porkers may look slow but they can turn on you in a blink of an eye .if you are going to sell them make sure they cant get under the trailer, block it with a bridgetimber or something . and buy a good hotshot(you will need it).Good Luck

Cat_Slayer probably meant to say to wire the trap open when he said to "Let it stay awhile with the trap unset. Then set the trap." That way they get used to going into the trap to get the corn and aren't as wary about doing so when you do set the trigger. Killing hogs isn't a one weekend deal, it's a lifetime vocation.
Have fun with your boys.
