"Dead Coyote" shotgun shells???

I don't know about out of turn. But maybe a little late to the party. Thread is over a year old.

But not as old as the other one you brought back up. It's over FIVE years old.

Went out to where I shot my first shotgun coyote this year to range it. It was 60 yards, he dropped there. I put a rifle round into him as well. I would shoot that range again without hesitation. Browning maxius, factory full choke with 3.5 inch Hevi shot coyote.

My experience with Dead Coyote 3 1/2" isn't quite as glorious as some here. The first coyote I shot with the stuff was maybe 25 yards broadside to me and dropped on the spot. Stone dead. The second coyote I shot was about 30 yards. It came out of the heavy sage and was facing me. When I shot it it did a complete back flip from the impact, got up and ran off into the sage. I tried tracking it with no success. That day I lost 3 more coyotes to the Dead Coyote shells the same way. On that day I killed 5 coyotes with the 22-250 and none of them got up after being shot just once. I still have about 5 boxes of the stuff and I carry it to California for calling in the Condor area but that's the only place I'll ever use it again.

Penetration alone doesn't equal efficient killing power. Lead flattens upon impact and delivers more shock. The hardness of the tungsten doesn't allow any expansion so unless your pellet hits a vital organ or enough blood vessels to make the animal die quickly you're going to get a runner. Best bet is to shoot a second and maybe third time automatically.

When I bought the Dead Coyote I also bought a Dead Coyote choke for my SuperX2. Dead Coyote shot patterns very well with it but #4 Buck patterns almost as well. With the Winchester 3 1/2" #4 Buckshot with 52 pellets I have never had a runner.

When I hear guys talking about T shot I can only hope they're talking alloy shot and not steel.

But you guys do what works best for you.

I'll bet you $1 those coyotes ran off because your point of impact changed with the DC ammo, probably low. I'll bet another $1 that you did not bother to pattern your ammo before you went hunting with it. And I'll bet yet another $1 that you did not pattern it afterwards to see what happened.

You most likely MISSED.
