"Evil Black Rifle"

Where did that term come from? The media? Years ago when the ATF began a campaign to denegrate Military styled arms, they displayed long tables of weapons. Hooded officers dressed in tactical black held up "scarey" looking black colored rifles with collapsable stocks, carry handles, flash supressors, scopes, bi-pods, and long 30-round magazines hanging out the bottom. A frightening sight for Suzy Homemaker watching the 6:00 news. "Do you want something like that kicking down your front door and invading your home?", quips the TV news reporter. The "Evil Black Rifles" must go.

Would a matte finish synthetic Remington 700 BDL with a 30 round magazine hanging out the bottom qualify as an EBR?

What about a matte/synthetic Encore with a "tactical" flashlight and laser pointer?

If I were to apply simluated wood grain veneer to my AR15 does it loose its EBR status?

I dunno. Look what happened to AK's and CETME's. They are equally villified.
It's got to be the handgrip. Something about whether your thumb goes over the stock or under it. Kind of like how you hold your little finger when drinking coffee. I think we're hearing from the same crowd on both issues.

Good point Bronco. Several years ago, While involved with IPSC, I think it was STI that came out with various colored frames and grips for the 1911. Somehow just this change from the basic black didn't make them look so serious.
What would be your first impression upon seeing a neon pink AR. How about purple? Would it be easier to get permission from a farmer if he saw a colored AR instead of the evil black?

I've had many discussions with anti's. (I was in the gun business)
Show them an AR in .223 and they say; "OMG! Why would anybody need such a thing? You can't hunt with them. They'd blow a deer to pieces and you'd have nothing left!"
Then I show them a .375 H&H magnum and ask if that would be more appropriate for deer hunting. "Oh yes, of course" they say. When you try to explain in simple terms why their reasoning is wrong, they don't get it. It has nothing to do with the caliber, the action or effectiveness of the round. The only thing they see is an EBR!
After the Patrick Purdy shooting spree in California. News reporters were on TV showing how these EBR's were capable of shattering a block of ice, or a cinder block with one shot. What they failed to mention was that out of 36 people shot, 30 were wounded. These were small children! (the b@$t@rD!) They never said a thing about the differences in shooting a soft target vs a brittle one.
After the West Hollywood, California bank robbery / shootout, the excrement hit the fan again. The media really built it up about how the police were out-gunned by these AK-7 carrying maniacs shooting full-auto evil "assault" rifles. Out of all the wounded, two died! Both of the deaths were the crooks! Apparently these crooks were using full metal jacket Genieva Convention approved military ammo that by definition is designed to wound and not kill. The police were shooting hollow points out of their conventional weapons and shotguns that could not penetrate the crooks body armour. The police went to B&B Guns and borrowed semi auto rifles and full metal jacket ammo so they could penetrate the body armour and neutralize the suspects. Even at that, one shooter took his own life and the other was allowed to bleed out after being hit. All of the people that were shot by the perpitrators lived, but yet the anti's preach about how these EBR's are only designed to kill people. These people all have the same mental sickness that afflicts PETA members. They have a vision in their heads that some other sicko put there and they have lost all ability to reason or use common sense, even when it is proven right before their eyes.

One time there was a hearing and the government asked a gun expert what is the most devastating gun available to the American public. The expert knew the reason for this question was to develop a ban list. He smiled and said, "You (the government) can't do anything about that one." The senator looked rather offended by the obvious lack of respect by this gun expert. The senator was not going to let this guy tell him what he could do or not do in his government and smelling the blood in the water he went on about how he (the senator) knew there were new guns that were more powerful than anything we had seen before and he was going to find out what they were one way or another. Then he went back to the gun expert and said, "I want you to tell me what this weapon is and I will remind you sir you are under oath!”
The expert again smiled and said "Sure, a 12gauge shotgun.”

This is something I have been thinking about for some time.If someone who is not familiar with EBRs was to come upon several guys with ARs,one has his in black and the other guy has his camoed.Which colored rifle do you think would get the least attention? My guess would be the camoed one would look the least threatening as everyone is accustomed to seeing camouflaged this and that, but the media shows the EBRs in black as the evil ones. My opinion.

Flipping through channels on TV last night and just caught the tail end of some court case and they was saying....."and police found an arsenal of firearms,he had four shotguns in his home all loaded" as they was saying this they showed 3 rifles, all different calibers and one shotgun. and then they showed the courtroom where they had set up a shotgun shell for the jury to see,and guess what,it looked to me like a 30.06 shell.
They like to say Arsenal so it sounds bad,and they dont know a BB gun from a tank...now thats what makes me mad.
So these folks who have never been around guns at all, they see a military style weapon and it must be the most powerfull gun in the world in thier eyes.

If you put the truth out there for the anti's, it only confuses and makes them angry. Maybe ignorance is bliss to them.

You're partially right DLS, but the hardline anti's aren't interested in the truth. The truth is right out in the open for the world to see. That tells me the anti's are only out to control what we as a people do and say.
