Bennington, Kansas is a small town in north-central Kansas.
As of 2010, the town's population was 672.

(As a side note: My mother graduated from Bennington High in 1958...and I grew up on my parents farm (which originally belonged to my mother's parents), approx. 6 miles south-west of Bennington.)

A Bennington High School graduate is pursuing his Olympic dream, one hurdle at a time. Lawson Montgomery will compete in the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, this Friday.
Montgomery graduated from Bennington High School. He currently is a senior at Wichita State University, where he is a second-team All American hurdler.
Montgomery, and Shocker teammate Todd McKown, both qualified for the Olympic trials in the 110-meter hurdles.
Including Montgomery and McKown, only 32 competitors qualified for the trials. The top 3 finishers qualify to compete later this Summer at the Olympics in London.
In an interview with Wichita's KSN News, Montgomery said "I don't think that I really, have a realistic shot of doing that but ya know, the thing is, once you are at the line, anyone has a chance of making it on".
Montgomery's best time is 13:63, and he says he and his competitors' best times are all within a couple tenths of a second.
"If we just drop even a couple tenths of a second, we could move past 15, 16 people," said Montgomery.
At the end of the day, he is happy, Olympics or not.
"I'm just really looking to go out there and really just have fun, I'm not really worried about what place I finish or how fast I run, but just go and enjoy the experience," said Montgomery.
While in high school, Montgomery set the 2A Kansas State record in the 110-meter hurdles. He won both the state 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles as a junior. He holds four records at Bennington High School, including the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the 100-meter dash, and was a member of the record holding 4x100-meter relay team.
Montgomery and McKown compete at the Olympic trials beginning this Friday.
