Qusestion for owners of "red dot type" sights , not lazers

Marines qualify,
200 meters, sitting, kneeling, standing
300 meters sitting and prone
500 meters prone

A 3minute dot in a tasco pro point is a great deer killer out to 150 on a tc contender in 35rem. Very easy to use. I also use one to start kids off with the little handi rifle in 223.

Check out red dots at Primary Arms. They make Aimpoint knock offs that are dam good. Take a look at the 300+ reviews. And, they are a bunch of good people.

Educate me about the minute of angle dot sizes please. How does this transfer into size I should look at for coons at 50 yards and in ? And magnification and eye piece size and field of view . How should I consider these in my purchase ? One that I checked out at Primary Arms is
REFURBISHED Primary Arms Micro Dot With Fixed Base MD-FBGII

SKU: REFURB-MD-FBGII

Manufactured by Primary Arms
It is $59.00 and I am thinking about getting one to try out by putting it on my new Little Badger .22 rifle that I am going to use to teach my G-kids to shoot with . It looks like it would be useable for my hunting needs also but if for not a lot more ( $100 ish ) maybe there is another site that has better features and quality or whatever you could steer me towards ? Thanks again for all the good comments. Jim

1MOA is 1.047" per 100 yards.
So at 200 yards the dot covers 2.1".
50 yards the 1moa dot covers .52"

The sight you are looking at on PrimaryArms has a 2MOA dot. So 2.1" at 100 yards and 1" at 50 yards.
Coons at 50 yards should be easy with that reddot.

This is the point that Indy is making. The bigger the moa dot, the more of the target is covered. Harder to hit what you cant see. When I cant tell if I am shooting shoulders or lungs, or guts, the effective range of that sight is up. I like to know where the bullet is going. Center mass is not what I want when shooting critters.

I have red dots on a couple of pistols for deer and my turkey gun and a couple of cheaper scopes with lighted cross hairs on my rifles. The red dots are fast to get on target like the guys say. The scopes one is a bushnell that I have on my 222 for night hunting and the other one is a center point walmart special that I have on my 17hmr for squirrel.

This may sound stupid to ya'll but at longer distances when the dot is too large, I use the bottom edge or top edge of the dot to shoot by. Using the bottom edge of the dot on the target automatically gives you elevation. You just have to try to see how much. Ok now you can laugh at me but with a 2 moa dot, I can break 4" clay targets at 200 yards & still see my target.

They also usually have different options for reticulation. You can have a dot, crosshairs, circle that you can see the entire target etc.

I don't see the reticle as a bigger negative that power amplification like you have in a scope.
