R-15 vs R25

stilltrying

Well I am going to follow the crowd and get another gun while I still can, it will be a R15 or R25, I do not reload yet but looks like I might start, until then I will shoot factory loads. I own a couple of 223, various 243, never owned a 308. My delima is I like the R15 carbine in 223, light short and should be accurate enough, I really like 243 but toting the extra pound around might be tiresome not getting any younger, not interested in 204.

soooo, how bout some comments on why I should buy a 308 over 243 and why not just get the 223 carbine

how much can I save reloading and would there be much cost difference from caliber to caliber

thnks in advance
Terry

have you picked up the r25 in .243 its pretty light. I would go with that. A guy on here showed of its accuracy it was impresive to say the least...Jason

.223 and .308 ammo is easier to find. .223 you can carry more rounds since they are lighter. Works great for coyotes til you need it for something else.

If you want a 308, go with that. I have an AR in 223 and kind of wished I had gone with an AR 10 in 308 for coyotes deer, etc. I own a 243 as well, but a lot of my hunitng in MN doesn't involve walking 6-12 miles in a day in rolling hills or grassland.

I noticed the weight differance between the R-25 and my 16" AR15 after about 6 stands i thought this thing is heavy.
But i think i can get used to it.

Thanks for the replies so far,
I have AR in 223 already, but its pretty heavy after awhile, I do like the 243 and have had no problem taking down anything so far, white tails being the biggest, ammo is easy enough to find, no one has really spoke to the advantages/disadvantages of 308, how much cost difference would there be reloading between the calibers

the 25 is half again as much as the 15 in price,
I have put my hands on the 25 have yet to find a 15 on the shelf to fondle, will be looking locally this week, off for the next 5 days gun show this weekend, so most likely will be shooting what ever I buy by Sunday.

my other mission this week is to separate all my guns into those the goverment might know about to those they don't, in preparation for the CHANGE that just got voted in

thanks in advance
Terry

R25 in 243 is on my wish list and I think Santie Claus is gonna get me one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am gonna get the 243 and shoot the 87 Vmax....

legal for deer, and put the smack on a coyote.

Plus, I can use the brass in my Ackley Imp. or reload for the AR10 platform. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have a rra predator and also have a r-25 in 243 both are set up the same way with the same brand scope and there is some difference in weight. But The reason I got the r-25 is so when it is windy I can take the wind a little better. Both shoot great. It is going to be hard to pick which one to carry. It might end up in a coin flip. I can also use the r-25 to hunt deer in southern Iowa if I want to.

I have 2 AR15 platforms, one in 204 and the other in 6mm WOA and also the R25 in 243. All 20" barrels the R25 is about 1.25lbs heavier than my 6 WOA and with in a few onces of my bull barrel 204. They all shoot great but the 204 and 6 WOA will shoot better groups on paper. But the R25 still goes with me most of the time. The coyotes don't even twitch when the 70 TNT hits them at around 3400fps and pelt damage has been minimal.

Done deal, I bought one of the last if not the last R15 it was 223 in Shreveport today, called the local gun shop said he sold out of everything yesterday, said his distributor had sold over 5000 lowers, I bought the last one Academy had, didnt go buy Dicks. Academy had 25s, so I got a side by side comparison, the R15 feels way lighter in the hand, trigger feels pretty good, need to get some glass on it and see how it shoots.

thnks for all the comments,
Terry

Well havent send a round down the tube yet, have a 3-9 nikon in real tree cammo on it, the price was very right on the scope and the cammo almost matches, trying to figure out now how to put a pic on here, will do that under my other post on this gun, r-15 optics
