R15 Predator Carbine vs. R15 Predator Rifle

I was looking at buying one or the other for my new coyote gun. Can anyone offer any pros or cons as to one rifle or the other when it comes to accuracy. Im open to any other rifle opnions as well. I would like to stick with the 223 cal.

I bought the Carbine CS because with the 18 inch barrel and collapsable stock it was the lightest model at 6.25 lbs. I already had a fairly heavy yote rifle, CZ 527 Varmint in 223. Here in GA I do a lot of quick stands because of the thick woods so a light rifle is nice.

I examined both closely before buying the Carbine CS. I also talked to Byron South and handled his personal Signature model. I really like being able to shorten the pull of the CS when I'm all bundled up in the winter. And I don't mind at all that it is lighter to carry.

Right there is the best reason for the CS. I have the 18" CS R15 and like the rest when Im in insulated coveralls, jacket and crud It makes a BIG difference when I can shorten the stock up 1-2 clicks.

The other...its lighter and as accurate as the standard R15.

I ordered the R-15 CS as Im looking for a light easier packing/sholdering gun.

That is if Budsgunshop.com ever ships it it's been 9 days and still havent gotten an email showing it's been shipped and no one answers the phones there.

I have both models, neither with the CS. I bought the 22" version when they first hit the market. I got the 18" carbine just before Christmas. I cant tell any difference in accuracy between the 2 guns. Only got the 18" model because I wanted to set up a "light weight" AR. I put a 4x Trijicon ACOG scope on it and REALLY like the way it handles.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I had first picked the carbine but was wondering how accurate it was. The weight of the carbine was a big attention grabber for me as I usually walk from a half mile to mile before I make most my stands. Here out West there is alot of open country.

I've got the 18" with the A2 stock. I can't imagine being able to tell the difference in accuracy between that and the 22" unless you are benchrest shooting. Mine is more than accurate enough for hunting situations.

I havent been able to find a dealer who can order one for me within 45 miles. The one gun store in town can order it but it priced higher than the suggested retail. Ill keep looking. Might try building my own at this point.

do you have any gun shows in your area? I see the Remington R series even at the small show that comes to Dothan.

BTW, Walmart can order any gun they catalog, even if they don't stock it. You could check with them & see what they can do.

We do have shows, actually one is week after next. Most of the time with gun shows around here you can buy new cheaper than those at shows. Don't get me wrong every now and agin you can find some pretty good deals and that' always a plus.
I did check with Wal Mart by phone I was told they couldn't order it, but I'm not sure the person I was talkin to knew anyting about guns. I plan to go look at the catalog once I get a chance.

Call Cabelas they have them for sale most of the time, no tax & will ship to your local ffl for $25.
Thats how I got mine here in WY. 1 was shipped from NV the other was from PA.

I wanted to buy from my local FFL but I bought mine from Dons Hobby Guns for about the same as my FFL's wholesale cost.Apparently dealers that buy big orders can get them cheaper and or they bought them prior to a Remington price increase. Katie at Dons was very nice and they shipped it that day.Dons had a good selection of R15's too. I found them in Gunsamerica's ads.

As for ammo I posted a test pic on Catwhacker's R15 thread "Got a good one". My R15 seems to like 50 vmaxs the best. It also shoots 40's and 60's well too. I didn't like the two 55 gr loads I shot in it. It didn't like any of Hornadys 40s or 55s. I was hoping it would since my CZ shoots them lights out. Some of the other R15 owners on here have had great success with 55's though. You just need to try several combinations to find the right one for your rifle. You are going to love that rifle!

They have an A2 stocked carbine for 969 on there right now. I bought my CS for 989 but Katie told me it was the last one at that price. All the CS models I am seeing are 1169 or there abouts now.

Skullcreek, like you I like to shoot the Hornady 55 vmax. Im my experience that round does not damage the pelts at all. My last kill was about 35 yards and there was a small exit. The last two dogs I have killed using that round have had hard to find holes in the pelt, but they sure go to work once inside. Thanks for the gun info, Ill definately check them out.

I am interested in seeing what if any difference there will be between the 50's and 55's performancewise on the yotes. I imagine there won't be too much difference. Maybe they won't bounce off them. Haha
