Rabbit Decoy

Skinner2, I was going to post about a self made decoy when I read yous post.

One question, how did you manage to make the motor to slow down or increase the RPMs? Mine is one speed, so what I did is I did not put the battery in my decoy. I made the connections(wiring) inside and ran a 50feet speaker wire where I can turn it on and of with a switch. Also, I bought some fake fur in Wal-Mart and glued it on it. It was about $2 for a 12x12 piece. Mine does not look like a rabbit though. Looks more like a… I don’t know what it looks like definitely not a rabbit.

Anyway, let me know how to slow down the motor. I got my motor at radio shack.

I took a small pot (switch) and mounted the pot at the butt, but insde with the shaft sticking out. I then took a white plastic piece and formed a rabbits tail and slipped it over the shaft. I have to turn the tail to set the speed.

The pot/switch is the same as a rheostat. They can be purchased from Radio Shack or other electronics supply stores.

Thanks for responding Weasel.

Use a single D battery and a small pot for more rpm comtrol Set it as slow as it will still turn. I have used my rabbit for over 6 hours adn the battery is still good. I just have not seen any coyotes at all while using it. I don't think it looks mean????

A number of years ago my brother-in-law gave me a prank gift for Christmas. It looked like a bag of chips with a racoon tail sticking out. When place on the floor and turned on it would look just like a coon tring to get your chips.

After reading several posts on decoys, and watching a video, it hit me. Take the gag gift and modify it. The heart of the "gizmo" is a round ball with a motor inside. A cam or concentric gear makes it shift the center of gravity and it will roll around change directions and go crazy.

I took the ball and glued it to a spring, and the spring to a stick. I bought an ugly looking piece of fur with eyes "store bought decoy" and it covers the ball.

Turn it on and it mostly bounces up and down flipping the tail. It will keep their attention just long enough, I hope
