Give me opinions on this powder, both good and bad.

I found a good buy on it, just have not used it before.

Running it thru an Ar and a Tikka, both .223.

Thanks

I use X-Terminator in my Remington 700VS in .223 with a 26" bull barrel. The best recipes I have made so far are:

.49" group with 23grs X-Term,CCI BR-4 primer- 50gr Nosler Ballistic Tip

.41" group with 23.3grs X-Term, CCI BR-4 primer- 55gr Sierra Varminter.

I am still fine tuning loads using X-Terminator and Varget.

My gun seems to like both almost equally, but I figured I would do a little more fine tuning, try to get under .35" groups.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

Is it a fairly clean burning powder, as I'm fixin' to load a bunch up for a prairie dog trip, and clean burning powder is a plus thru an AR.

Again Thanks

I have loaded it in the .223 and just recently in the Tac .20 and its no dirtier than Benchmark but maybe cleaner than H322 if that makes sense. Meters really good and I got good accuracy and speeds were close to what I expected so overall if the price is right I would buy it. I checked my .223 load and 25gr with LC brass Rem 7.5 primer 55gr Hornady SP it was 3089fps from the Dtech(20in) and the 5 shot group I had filed with it was .505 the 22inch barrel Savage predator was 3110fps.

My pdog load for my .223 Rems is 27 grains under 40 grain VMaxes, which average 3705 fps from the 26" barrels. If you try this load, please work up carefully, as it is approaching "max" pretty quick.

My previous "favorite" pdog load was 55 grain VMaxes over H322 at 3250 fps. Truth is, I can't tell much difference ballistically between the two loads, even in tough wind conditions. The added velocity of the lighter bullet seem to make it a wash when compared to the heavier slower bullet.

Both loads pretty much group in the .4's for me, on days when I'm up to it.

There is a slight lessening in felt recoil with the 40 grainers, but it's not really a huge difference.

Based on the above, one would think "six of one, half a dozen of the other", but.......

I can't explain it, and it's hard to put into words, but the 40 grainers moving fast just seem to be easier to shoot with pinpoint accuracy than are the 55's. With the 55's, when I shoot pdogs, that's what I hit...the pdog. With the 40's, it seems if I want to hit him in the armpit or head, that's where it usually lands. On paper and in the wind, they perform pretty much the same. On pdogs, though, my first shot hit rate probably increased by 10% when I started using XTerm and the 40's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

After trying and testing two 1 pound cans of XTerm, my next purchase was two 8 lb jugs. I have an almost full 8 lb jug of H322 I haven't touched in almost a year and a half. (Not that H322 is a slouch, either....I just fell in love with XTerm.)

BTW...if you think H322 meters well, try some XTerm....you ain't seen nothin' yet.

I've loaded in both my .204 and .223 ARs and it shoots great. My other go-to powder is W-748 and I can't tell any difference as far as clean up.

If you have it for a good price, go for it and smile..

IIRC, Midway's monthly flyer has it for just a bit over $10 a pound. I'd be interested at that price if they offered it in 8 lb jugs (to insure the same production lot), but I think it's strictly the one pound containers that are on sale.
