The rifle is my custom 25/06, 27.75" Bartlien barrel. Last time I did this was in March and was fairly cold out, today was 76°.
I've been trying to find a powder for maximum velocity and accuracy. I shoot 117 spbt and for coyotes the 70 grain blizkings.
The first and only loads for the 70's has been the hunting load listed in the Sierra manual, 52.4 grains of Varget. It basically puts them in one ragged hole at 100 yards. I ran 10 rounds across the chronograph, at 10' from the muzzle they averaged 4034.6 fps, SD of 7.5 . I'm stunned.
So on to the 117's I loaded up 58.5 grains of H-1000, 10 rounds. Average velocity was 3219 fps and a SD of 29.87. After that 10 rounds of Retumbo @60.5 grains. They averaged 3315.25 fps, SD of 26.07. Next is off to the bench work on an accurate load, ( I was shooting sitting with a bipod leaning back against the pickup tire.) The Retumbo did shoot the best groups of the 2 powders tried, sub moa but I would like to dial it in tighter.
