I am interested in a bushnell or nikon. I hunt out to 500 yards. What experiance do you have with either one? Thanks for your reply

I have two Bushnells 800 and 1000 yards. I tried the Nikon and it fogged up during Elk hunt in Colorado. I had just purchased the Nikon the week before i left on the hunt and hadn't had time to mail off the warranty. Nikon wouldn't fix it even tho it was brand new , just because i hadn't filled out the warranty before i left on the hunt. That end me with buying another Nikon. Bushnell works better and will repair , no questions asked.

I have the Bushnell 1000 and it works fine. A friend has the 800 and is just as good. A word of precaution is to get a 6X instead of the 8X because it is easier to hold on objects to get the range.

I have the Bushnell Scout laser range finder. However it kept using up batteries after just one use!

Called Bushnell and they were very professional and said for $10.00 they would go through the unit completely and fix the battery problem.

It was way out of warranty, but no questions asked. They put on a new "gizmo" that turns off the battery when not in use, and gave me three new batteries for all my trouble. Good outfit! Turn around time - 5 days!

I have got the Yardage Pro 1000. I like it a lot. The furthest target I have read was 923 yards. I thought that was pretty cool.

Me too! I am satisfied with the performance of mine also. I don't use mine past 500 yds. generally and it has performed well out to those ranges. Nice rangefinder for the money IMO.

I just bought a Yardage Pro 800 and used to to range a coyote yesterday, he was only at 168 yards. I have ranged deer out to 478 yards w/ it but would never shoot at one that far away. They really help take the guess work out of guessing and if you have a ballistic chart w/ you you should have no problems w/ the long shots /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't rule out the Leica 900 or 1200 scan models. They are a little more expensive, but well worth the difference.

I bought a 900 Leica scan model about a year ago and have left my Bushnell laying in the case ever since. It scans very well and picks up distant objects much easier. Well worth the cost difference for me - BCB

I've been considering the Leica 900 scan.

I've hunted with two people who both use Leicas and neither had a complaint. Both models are a year or two old and seem to be very accurate and consistent.

I'm keeping my options open at this point, so I'd like to hear more opinions on different brands.

Brad, I had a Leica and while it worked well most of the time, I couldn't get the red target box to show on a snow white background. I sold it and went to a Bushnell. It is everything the Leica was without the snow problem.

When you come up for the hunt, I'll let you try mine and Mike Granger has a Leica. We could maybe do some field comparisons.
I sure have no complaints about my Bushnell and Mike really likes his Leica, so it may come back to the chevy/ford thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bushnell Yardage Pro Compact 800. It's about he same size as the Leica, IMHO works as well and has a different system for target acquisition that seems to work in all conditions. It's a little less money. I find the 800 is plenty of range.

If you can do a hands on comparison, that is the best.

I tried a pair of the new Leica binos with the rangefinder built in and they were awesome. Unfortunately it looked like I would still have the same problem against a solid white background. They also retail about $1700U.S.

Thanks Redfrog. Sounds like a great opportunity to try both first hand.

I drive a Dodge so I'm quite unbiased. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have the Nikon 600 for over 1 year now and absolutely love it! Its great--have lasered things out to 700 plus yards. Also the Nikon has better glass than the Bushnell and is better in low light conditions....I think that its great...also tried Bushnell--but glad I went w/ Nikon!
