Range Finders

I went with the Leica 1600B very impressed with it so far. I have an older Nikon 600 and it's max is usually about 300 yards and that's not on something as small as a coyote. I would buy more than I need.

Since posting here, I've had a chance to get a lot of play time wth the Sig 2000. It easily beats my current Leica. It is faster and will reliably range animals out past 1200. A hill side at 2500 and a billboard at 3300 yards. And it is about 1/2 the price of the Leica. I will be getting one very soon.

I have the leupold 1000 tbr and it is flawless for bow hunting. Whatever the yardage it says to shoot at whatever trajectory it is always spot on.

But for Rifle hunting its not the one to have. It will work good out to 400 yds if clear weather. If clear weather it will fail many times reading animals past 400 yds. If misty, foggy, raining or low light it just doesn't perform.

Sounds like with your situation it would work great for the bow hunting and only ok for rifle (but not good). if you can afford it, get the Leica or maybe the Sig (I am not familiar with the sig though).

Correct.

And after owning a lecia 1600b and now this Sig, it is an easy win for the Sig 2000. It really isn't even a fair comparison.

I have heard vedy good things.

It whoops the 1600b's little hinney. Faster, clearer (auto dimming) display, and better on furry animals.

I have a Leica 1200 and its challenging to range a coyote at 600+ yards. Not sure if something is wrong with the unit or the target (coyote) is just to small.
Where does one buy a Sig 2000?

A few guys have them and has posted their thoughts over on long range hunting forum. Everyone is saying that Sig 2000 puts the leica 1600b to shame and is way cheaper. I just ordered one from savinglot.com for $400.

I have a Nikon Prostaff 550 which I don't think is made anymore. The dilemma I always face is budget. Over the last couple of years I've upgraded all of my scopes. Next on the agenda was binoculars and I purchased a pair of Meopta Meopro 10x42 HD's in August. Wow. Next on the list is a new spotting scope. I don't use one when hunting, just to see the bullet holes when sighting in and I'm tired of having to strain my eyes with my cheap Simmons. After I get a spotting scope I'll focus on a new rangefinder. The reason it is last on my list is because:
I won't take a shot on anything over 400 yards.
I hunt either my land, a relatives land or my best friends land from set locations. If I can't range an animal there are known
landmarks I can range that will give me a very good estimate of the animals range.

It is not optimal but I get by. A new rangefinder is 2nd on my list and will be purchased by next fall. Are there other hunters out there that have to prioritize their purchases like me?

Haha, im with you! I budget and prioritize all the time. Personally i would bump a range finder to the top over the spotting scope since you dont hunt with the spotting scope, but thats me.
Would you be interested in buying my Leica 1200?
PM me if you are interested.

Family land I've been hunting since the 60's, brother in law and best friend since the early 80's and my land since 97. I pretty much know the ranges I'm shooting at. All the hunting I do is from a stand except for coyotes. So for me it's a Spotting Scope First.

Thanks for the offer on the Leica but, I took an early retirement package in 2014 and started working part time at the Cabela's Gun Counter. The store discount is NOTHING to write home about but we have dealer programs with some Optics companies that will blow you away. Meopta, Leupold, Vortex and Burris.
