Well i got board today so i decided to work up a few loads for my browning BAR. heres the loads and the results. I started at 42.5 GR of IMR-4831 and went up to the max 44.5 which the max did not shoot well. heres the results

Heres the starting load not to bad for a BAR 42.5gr of imr-4831 pushing a sierria 85gr Game king hpbt. Col. is 2.677 group is .808

Next i went up to 43.0 gr even best group is this one which measured .294 i can live with that any day.

The 43.5 load opened up to just over 1 inch so i shot the 44.0 gr load and here it is measured .736 i can live with that as well.

I belive im going to stick with the IMR-4831 for the BAR im tickeled with the way it performs.

I have two of them, a steel frame wood stock .30-06 and a lightweight .243 synthetic stock. Both are fantastic shooters and dead nutts reliable. Can't argue with results, but IMR-4831 is a slow burning powder for the 85 gr. weight and also for the operating gas system of the rifle.

The reason i went with the 4831 is the nosler book showed it to be the most accurate powder for the weight of bullet. It was a toss up of 4831 or imr-4350. When i get board again im going to try a few other powders just to see what they will do. The gun use to shoot pretty close like this when it was new with factory winchester 95gr ballistic tips. About 2 years ago it opened up to about an inch with the same factory stuff i had been shooting. I think winchester had changed something when it opened up a little. She is back to better then it was.
