I invited Tim Neitzke down for a few days this past week/weekend to do a little long range shoot, skeet shooting, and fishing.
Tim arrived Thursday afternoon and brought some bad weather with him. Nah, it was calling for rain throughout Thursday, but Fri, Sat, and Sun was suppose to be nice. Since it rained pretty much all day on Thursday, we didn't do much except shoot the crap and went out to dinner in town.
Friday morning I took Tim around our two farms to show him around and also check a few lakes out, too. It was overcast, but wasn't windy, so we decided to pack up and head to the 1000yd range. I'm pretty lucky since this range is 25 minutes from my gf and I farm house. I've been a member for almost 4 years now at this range. Normally, you'll have the range to yourself which makes it very nice.
Tim and I got down to the range around 1:15pm. Before we left, I called the lady who owns the range to tell her I was bringing a non member down to shoot. While arriving to the range, we noticed a lot of different vehicle. I was hoping for a few people, but not a lot. Deb came down to greet Tim. Tim had had to sign some waiver forms before we could shoot. We grabbed our gear from my truck and decided to head to the '16 prone shooting deck. We unpacked and got settled.
Shortly, other members wanted to go down range to check targets and paint gongs, so we set some 100yd paper up. Once the range was safe, Tim decided to FF some 52gr Amax out of his new .223ai at 100yds. After Tim was done FF loads, he switched to some 75gr Amax in his .223ai to zero and set his zero stop on his NF 3.5-15*50 NPR1. It started misting, so we packed up and went down stairs so we wouldn't get wet.
With my I-phone, I ran the ballistics on his 75gr Amax load. I wrote all the info down on a note book, so Tim could use it.
Tim hasn't shot past much beyond 500yds and that was when he went PD shooting a few years back. Correct me if I'm wrong Tim.
Tim was ringing steel all the way out to 1000yds with his new .223ai. He was grinning ear to ear and looked like a little kid at Christmas.
We seen a few Ghogs at 1000yds on the berms, but didn't connect on them. Later in the afternoon while I was glassing with my EL 10*42's I spotted a Ghog in some thick vegetation standing up. I told Tim and we both got our .223ai's ready with the old, trusty, 75gr Amax. I told Tim he could shoot first and after his shot would ring out, I would shoot. I ranged the Ghog a handful of times to get a good reading. The Ghog went from the tall, thick, veg to the freshly planted corn. My Leica 1200 LRF was giving me a reading of 568yds. Tim dialed 11.75 MOA and I dialed 10 MOA since my load shoots a littler quicker then his.
The Ghog was standing up, but looking away when Tim let his 75gr Amax fly! The Ghog got hit and it was flopping around, but looked like it might head to the tall weeds and then I sent my 75gr Amax down range and the Ghog stopped flopping around. Both Tim and I looked like kids coming-out of a candy shop! We gave each other a high 5 and decided to head down range. Tim's Amax entered the Ghogs back and exit the chest. Mine entered the arm pit area and exited the other.
Walker that day I killed a Ghog at 100yds with my .243ai.
Here's what we brought with us to the range.
(2) light weight .223ai

We shot from 1:30pm till 9:30pm.
Saturday we shot skeet with a bunch of friends and my gf. I didn't take a camera, so I only have a picture off my phone. We had the Police called, I guess you can't enjoy shooting on your property without ppl complaining. The police said we were fine, but had to check it out since they got a call.
Sunday, Tim and I did a little fishing. Fishing was VERY slow, but we picked up a few small bass, and some nice gills and crappies. Tim left later that evening before a nasty storm blew in. I thought a Tornado touched down with the wind that we had. Lucky nothing got damage except a little barn siding.
Sorry for the long post/choppy story. Hard to type all this info from my cell phone since our main computer is down for the count.
NOW, for the pictures....
Tim at 1000yds with his .223ai. 5 shot group.
Myself at 1000yds. 4 shots, wind took my other shot. GAP .223ai.
I only had 5rds left for this rifle after load work up a few weeks ago. Dialed 24.5 and fired a Cold bore shot and it went into the orange. Shot again and went right next to the 1st shot. Guess I got a little excited and pulled my 3rd shot.
Tim at 800yds. 4 shots.
5 shots at 500yds.
