oh ya, i thought you guys would be ahead of us on the corn, looks like your maturation is about the same as ours out here in western SD.

We have had a super wet spring crops are way behind. The corn should be almost to tall to shoot chucks in by this time.Infact not all corn is in yet.

Thanks to all.

Looks like you guys had fun. While its nice living where I do now, and I can shoot long range just a mile down the road, I do miss going to Youngs.

Bolt work done by Kampfeld. Smithing done by the "batcave or secret smith" as we call him. If I say who ,death threats will be stacking up !

Brad, you missed a good time. We seen a lot of Ghog's at 1k and one at 900yds. I need to make a trip during the week, so I won't have to compete with everyone down there for them.

I need some '17 since my .243ai is dry.

I will have to google up your location!!

Super Seal 110, i am still thinking about turning my .223rem 700P into a .223AI and I have a feeling that the barrel is almost ready to give up ...about 20000+ rounds through it now and it is a MOA ..not a sub MOA gun now!
any advice on how best to do this (lest expensive way to get good results) I would think that i have to buy a barrel chambered in .223Rem (what twist?) and then get the chamber AI wor done ...and then get it installed on my action?
yes as you can see I am into guns..not so into the gunsmithing lol

any idea how much the tasks should cost so i have an estamate and don't get screwed!
Thanks man

buy a barrel chambered for 223 AI and screw it on your action. I see your located in Canada so I dont know all the regs and what not.

If you lived in the states, you could send your barreled action to pacnor, get a stainless super match barrel threaded and chambered to your caliber of choice, and true/square up your action for $610. The barrel is $310, the action truing is $300. Turn around time is around 3-4 months. Bout the cheapest, best way I would know how to do on a Rem action.

Even cheaper yet would be to build on a slavage action. All you would need is to buy the barrel ($310) and screw it on yourself as there is no truing up a savage action. You would need a few parts [beeep] to do this.

Pac Nor does have a "Rem Nut" now which is the same concept as the savage to where you can change barrels quickly/easily yourself with a set of no/go gauges. Think its like $65 or something.

PacNors seem to shoot pretty good from what I've read and seen first hand.

Kyotekiller25,
thanks so much for the info i will defenatly look into the Pac Nor way!
...so if I was to go that way it would be around $60 for the Rem nut and $300 ish for the barrel and say 50 for misc
parts? that sounds pretty good!

FIXT

Superseal, have you tried your 17's on the gongs? Would be interested to know how far the 17hm2 would ring steel.

I've only shot my .17rem at gongs. I've shot out to 600yds, but they sure don't take much paint way out there. 600 yds if the furthest I've shot my .17 rem.

Jonahan,

Depends on what you want to do with that .223ai. I'd personally would run 1/8" twist to take advantage of high BC bullets such as Hornady 75gr Amax. I run 1/8" in all my .223ai's and .223's. They're much more versital then the common 1/12" twists.

A barrel will run $300 +/- $20.

Smith work will run $150-$350. Depends on who you use. I've used GAP a few times and my "Bat smith" will shoot just as good, but a fraction of the cost. I had under $150 for the action work on my .243ai (truing, chambering, crowning) and only took a month.

Ok so i am not out there with my thoughts on the 1in8 twist...75gr A-Max are not hard to find here and not as dear as Bergers or Lapua's ...what are your thoughts on 1 in 8 on a standard .223 Rem? ...I might have a little bit of a hard time finding a smith that has a AI chamber reamer!
thanks again bro

I wouldn't be afraid to roll a standard .223 w/an 8" twist. My AR's have an 8" twist. I run 50gr Vmax-75gr Amax without a problem.

You could always order a reamer, not sure how that would work since you're in Canada though.
