Rare, Cusom, Hard to find???

I was reading on another site about people advertising forearms as "Rare" or "Hard to find" and then "Custom". A guy was selling a discontinued model Leupold scope calling it rare when in actuality, its just a discontinued model. Some say hard to find but maybe they are hard to find because they were junk to begin with??? IDK? Then there is Custom. Taking a rifle out of a plastic stock and putting it in a Boyd's or B&C or even a McMillan doesn't really make it a custom rifle to me, just upgraded.

So, whats makes an item "Rare"? Or "Custom"? I kinda understand Hard to find. Been looking for a few different bullets and they are "Hard to find".

Well, when it comes to politicians "rare" would be an intelligent Democrat. "Extremely rare" would refer to an honest intelligent Democrat (if they even exist).

"Custom" would be one that had a sex change operation.

Reminds me of a joke I recently read!
A guy went in to get a new brain and there were two available at the time. One was $5.00 and the other one was $10,000, when he asked why one was so much than the other he was told that the $5.00 one was from a physicist, and the $10,000 one was from a Democrat and it was never used!

Back on topic!
There are rare, custom, and hard to find guns, but as the OP stated, some people get carried away with what constitutes rare, custom, and hard to find. Rare and hard to find may be an interchangeable description, a custom gun to me would be more than just installing a different stock or an aftermarket trigger.

Rare - few made or still around
Hard to find - just that, even though many may have been made
Custom - modified by a quality smith who specializes in that type of firearm (otherwise it is just hacked up)

If it is rare or hard to find nobody has to tell you that, you'll know if your looking at it.

I hunt with a number of unique rifles and shotguns most have never seen. But not hard to find if you look in the right places. Most of my stuff is valued on craftsmanship and utility not on rareity. In fact a couple are quite rare but we're some of the least expensive as they are not in demand.

Many old rifles and shotguns have been customized to fit the owner or repaired within their budget. Often referred to as being "Bubba'd". At the time they were not unique or rare, they were tools, much like a Rem 700 that has had everything replaced but then action tube, maybe one day a complete original 700 will be rare and unique.

Judging by some of the prices they are bringing, I would think an original 700 is already rare and unique!
