Rattle can AR's

Here's some pictures of a couple of rattle can jobs I did over the weekend. At some point I'll probably cerakote them, but for now this will do plus I learned a lot by doing it.

The above link shows you how to make the stencils.

This will give you the basic idea of what I did. I would reverse the paint order though and go dark to light as I want it to be lighter (tan) to blend in where I hunt most.

Here are the patterns in DXF (keeps from wasting ink)

very nice!! I want to try this to my bushmaster M4 but I am worried it will turn out like crap...... I wish I had the guts to do it.... What paint did you use?

Looks very good. I did a rifle just like your first one. I didn't want to make my own stencils though so I went to bulldogarms.com and ordered there stencil kit for $10 and it worked awsome.

Thanks guys!

I did it fully assembled, just taped off the areas that I didn't want paint to go and moved any parts that were not masked after each coating to make sure they moved freely.

I used the camouflage paint from Rustoleum, but Krylon also makes some as well. Covered with a clear matte finish and let it dry for a good 24-48 hours after it was completed before handling.

Really it's not too bad to do. Took me about 4-5 hours each total time with cutting and apply the stencils and doing the light coats of each color of paint. If you order the stencils it will cut down on the time quite a bit.
