RCBS Chargemaster Combo Users...

For those of you using this setup, I am curious to know if your results are similar to mine? FYI...I have been a very loyal RCBS user and they have always taken care of me to this point.

I am now on my 3rd unit, all warrantied within the last 3 months. I purchased this unit with the hopes it would speed up my rifle reloading now that I am shooting higher volume rifle. I was previously using a powder thrower, beam scale and trickler.

The issue with the previous two units was they would almost without fail overthrow the charge by up to 1/2 grain. When I returned the first unit the serial number brought up a known issue with that lot. They sent me the 2nd unit after "testing" it, same issue.

Got my 3rd unit last week and had a chance to test it out tonight. I was trying to throw 25 grains of Varget. When I started my test I threw 10 charges. Out of the 10 throws, only one was not correct, it came in at 24.4 grains. After the third charge I started timing each throw. Fastest was 17.06 seconds and the longest was just over 1 minute. This was using the factory settings.

I decided to tweak the settings per many YouTube videos. I changed the first 3 settings to: 10.0; 2.5; 1.1

I then threw 10 more charges. Out of the 10, 3 came in either over or under 25 (25.1; 24.7; 24.1). The times varied from 4.62 seconds to 45.20 seconds. To me this is a HUGE spread in times. I get these scales are good to within .1 grain but to me I am not sure why it would EVER come in under the correct charge. Overthrowing, I get that to a degree.

I have not yet tried the "McDonald's straw" modification. Is what I am experiencing typical? To me, for a unit that cost almost $400 with tax (I know they can be had cheaper during sales, but RCBS is valuing them at close to $400) I would expect better.

Mine works good. Not really any issues and the times all seem to be consistent. It does drop over weight quite a bit but that is only because I use extruded powder mostly and it doesn't meter very well when trying to trickle. When it is over weight....it is only by a few tenths of a grain. I did return/exchange the original unit but only because a few segments were missing on the display. New one has been working good for months and still saves tons of time.

Mine works really well. Did 100 rounds the other night with h4350 (extruded) and had 2 over charges by 0.1 grains. I bought a restricted tube from a guy off this site. Search the equipment forum. I've never used it without the restricted but heard it really helps.

We are running 3 Chargemasters consecutively, and use the McDonlad's straw in all of them, they are inclined to throw a charge every 10-20 dispersals, I have also went into my parameter settings and tweaked them, now they throw a charge almost twice as fast, and with the same accuracy as before.

Try these settings. 7.00:2.00:0.50 they have worked well for me except for powders like H380 then I have to change them a bit.

100% get that straw in there. It keeps the powder from stacking up at the end of the tube witch causes a pile to fall out when it starts to Trickle..

One other thing that I try to do on my charge master is to have the scale end just slightly higher. I mean just a hair higher and it has made mine more consistent. The straw trick is to cut a micky D's straw about an 1in or 2 long and stick it in the discharge spout about 1/2 way and it helps with over throws. I have see some guys actually cut V's in the straw end sticking out to help also.

Thanks for the replies. I will go ahead and do the straw modification and change the settings to those mentioned above and see what happens.
