RCBS Rockchucker Set

I want to start reloading and I dont have alot of money to sink into a bunch of equipment!
I saw the RCBS Rockchucker set and it looks like a pretty good deal?

Anyone else have this set or any ideas on something similar?

Don't discount the Lee stuff. It is really solidly made, a great company, and the price is really affordable. I bought the Lee stuff to start with, having the intention of "upgrading" if I liked reloading. The only upgrade I made was to go to the Lee turret press. Their new single stage is the cat's meow, if you will. Has inserts for each die, so once the die is set to the particular cartridge, it doesn't have to be set again, just inserted and go. That is why I bought the turret press. All dies are set once, then you can just about forget about setting them. minor adjustments here and there, but for the most part they are set.

I have NEVER had a problem with my Lee reloading equipment.

If you mean the "Rockchucker Supreme Master Kit", I have that one. There are a few things you need or will want to upgrade, but if you aren't trying to complete high production reloading, it is great.

The very same press I have to this day
Has served me well for a whole lotta years
Its like a timex takes a licken and keeps on ticken

Been using the same Rockchucker since 1973. Unlike me, it has never missed a lick. I have never found any reason to go to any other press as this one has done everything that I ever wanted it to do. If I had a nickel for every time I pulled the handle on this press I could go buy me a new car.

As the old saying goes, "When you buy the best, you only cry once".

Someone will still be loading excellent ammo on my Rockchucker long after I am dead.

I have the Lee Breechlock kit - very good. Father in law has RCBS - very good as well. He's had his since 1963 - will my Lee press still be around? Hope so. Don't really know. Not sure if my father in law thought his would be around 45 years later - but it is. There is a difference in the quality - that is for sure - but enough to make one function better than the other? Don't know - jury is still out. I've loaded a few thousand so far and have no issues with my Lee.

I started with a Rock Chucker over forty years ago, I still use that same press! I bought another Rock Chucker to speed things up a little one for sizeing use a hand priming toll and dump powder than the other for bullet seating and crimping, works good for rifle ammo, last month i bought an RCBS turret press. I don't know what is really faster the turret or my old system. I like hand checking between each stage of the process to much to ever go with a progressive.
In my book RCBS is the best handloading set up you can get for the money.
BTW when I was shooting competition (IDPA) I knew several guys who bought Lee equipt, Many of them replaced presses several times, because the link pins wore out the joints of the Aluminum presses. Don't get me wrong now LEE is a good low priced brand, it is great for anyone who wants to try handloading a box or two a month. But to be able to load and shoot thousands of rounds a year, and be able to teach your kids and grandkid the art of handloading, and to be able to pass on your equipt. And to know you will have very few if any problems with it, ever. Go RCBS!

I bought the RCBS kit after I graduated highschool. 8 years later, I still use everything in the kit except the lube pad, primer tubes and the trimmer (It still works).

An elderly friend gave me his old rockchucker, from the 60's. Still in great shape thousands opon thousands of rounds later!

RCBS's Rockchucker is one of the best deals out there in a single stage press. Been using one since 1973 and never have had a problem with it. RCBS's equipment is covered by a lifetime warranty even if you aren't the original owner. Look around buy used RCBS and save a bunch of money.

I have a hand me down RCBS that was given to me buy the man who tought me how to reload he had 3 of them he bought over 35 years ago he said at that time and that was ten years ago when he gave it to me. I use it like I stole it and it never misses a lick. Spend a little time and you can find used equipment at a great price or buy new and know you, your kids, and their kids will get good use of the set. All the dies I have are also RCBS with the exception of 2 they are redding and they work great also.

For someone starting out, think of the possibilities. What if you dont like reloading? I have to agree with those that like the Lee reloader. For an inexpensive kit it does a good job.. In Lee's case, I dont classify Cheap" with Inexpensive. Ask around, Im sure there are many here that have reloaded Thousands of rounds with the little $100 kits. I have not been into reloading very long, and so Its just My opinion. Id start out small, and go from there.. once you start.. youll be suprised how many things you may need to complete your reloading outfit. Good Luck !

I'm new to reloading and just bought the RockChucker Supreme Master kit about a month ago. I've making rounds for my .223 with no problems at all. Go for it...you'll like it.

That's a good set to start with. I'm still using that press and the powder measure after 25 years. RCBS is good value and they'll take care of you if you ever have any problems.
You will need to get a few more things, but none of it is very expensive.

I have a Lee Challenger kit and a Rock Chucker. Both are great presses for the money. I use the RC to size and bump the shoulders on my 6BR cases, and I use the Lee for bullet seating.

Using the Lee press and the Lee collet dies I have cranked out some really good shooting .308 ammo.

Yotes_B_Ware,

I purchased the rcbs supreme reloading kit 4 years ago. I was given a crash course on reloading by rustydust (nice picture by the way) and was on my way. It is a great press. Very sturdy and precise. Just remember to keep some lube on it and it will treat you right.

I have no regrets on buying this kit. It contains everything you absolutely need to START reloading with the exception of a case trimmer - mine didn't have one anyway.

But having no regrets I will say that if you are not in a hurry to start and want to save a buck or two I would buy a used rock chucker and start to accumulate your other tools as you find them. There is lots of used stuff out there.

I have no experience with Lee or any other brand of press but I can tell you that you will not regret buying the rock chucker.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Great!
Thanks guy's I really appreciate all your input and advice.
I am leaning towards the RCBS but will definitely do a little more research before making up my mind.
I have a few months to decide due to the house catching on fire and not having access to my work bench!

Thanks again guys!

O by the way, where is a good place to look for used equipment besides E-Bay?
