Re-Loading 22WMR pays big!

No I don't think so. And thats to bad because that Coyote killer 22 magnum ammo was some powerful stuff! But if you reload you can roll your own!

Marco- thanks
Spent come time googling it up and everything was old
May have to try this after season when more time
Thanks

Super cool stuff!!

Makes me want to try my hand with loading 22LR with the CE bullets for long range steel plinking.

Right now I'm at 500 yards with around a 60-70% hit ratio on a 20" plate with a CZ457/Bartlein/Boyds Varmint stock with adj cheekpiece, 8 oz trigger, Area 419 30 MOA rail, and a Vortex Venom 5-25x with SK long range ammo. It sure is fun...

I decided to play with some rimfire reloading recently and found dramatic improvements.

Factory Winchester white box [22wmr] 40gr hp,s had 5.7gr of a fine ball powder and were fairly consistent in charge weight. Muzzle velocity from a 24" barrel was around 1850fps. accuracy was around 1.5 inch at 50yds.

Factory powder was increased to a max of 7.0gr and 2165 fps. No accuracy test was done. That is a 300fps gain though!

Lil'Gun and H-110 were also tested with 40gr V-Max, factory 40gr hollow points, and 50gr Hornady sx's.

I was able to settle on H-110 with factory 40gr hp's at 2275fps and groups right at 1" at 50yds.

The 50gr Hornady sx bullet could be seated deep enough to work with the factory magazine if the led tip was filed off [1.335 oal] H-110 was able to produce 1905fps and groups right in the 1" area from a CZ American 455.

It still is no Hornet, but for close called in cats it should be heavy medicine!

I'm still playing with it. Factory Hornady 30gr V-max were 2400 plus fps and group very well. The gains I was able to make were 400fps over factory 40gr though and that is something worth while.

Oh and the Federal 50 were 1570fps from the 19" CZ while my reloads with 50gr Hornady sx's were 1900fps

Just sharing my experience. have fun and be safe!

******* WARNING *******

I am no expert. Just a regular guy who likes to tinker. You should not try this unless you have done your own research and feel comfortable with playing in the unknown. When in doubt, don't do it!
Well isn't that cool! My cheap American 22wmr shoots a quarter moa at 100 yards with factory 30 grain vmax 2200 fps wmr loads. First 6 shot group with the stuff at 100 yards meaured .323”!!! The Winchester 2250 fps varmint ammo measured .648” at 100 with its first 6 shot group. I do also own a hornet. My 22wmr will out shoot the hornet at 100 yards even with the best grouping hand loads. Hornet average groups are closer to 1
.5" or bigger at 100 yards.

Not sure what Hornet reloads you have shot or seen shot but I assure you mine does not shoot any where near as bad as you claim the Hornet shoots. Factory ammo does better than 1.5” at 100 yards. Here are a few different reloads from mine.

Exactly, and I've never seen a 22 WMR shoot consistent 1/4 at 100 yards either, nor even 1/2 for that matter, let alone with a cheap American rifle. One lucky group doesn't make it an all day occurrence. The most accurate 22LRs with Bartleins and Kriegers, the best match ammo Lapua/Eley dont even do that. And there is no match ammo for a 22 WMR.

I'd like to see a 5x5 at 100 to this 1/4 MOA 22 WMR... $100 says it doesn't happen 🤣

I need to come over to your house and you can work with me on it! Those groups get me excited for hornet! I see it says 17 hornet written on your targets though, not 22. I would assume the 17 version of the hornet has got to be a lot more accurate? The way the case design sure makes me think it would be versus the 22 version of the hornet . I have to admit I haven’t done tons of ladder testing with it in with various bullets. Tried a few powder with 40 grain vmax and 40 grain Nosler ballistic tips. Mostly Lil gin powder Ladder testing. Just tried what I had on hand. Kind of lost interest in the gun after testing. I just got a big supply of various hornet specific bullets that I traded for with brass included. I’ll have to try again! About 400 of the 45 grain Remington HPs and some 35 grain vmax with some others. Guessing I’d need a bolt gun with a light trigger To make it shine. Shooting a savage 24f predator with a light ended trigger just under 3 pounds. We all know it’s not the most accurate set up so I’m sure it’s to blame. Bought it last Year new never fired. Bought it for a fraction of what I’ve seen them going for so I couldn’t pass it up.

I’m sure coyote killer is right. I wouldn’t trust 22 Winchester ammo to save my life! BUT…they were the first two, six shot groups out of my rifle after I sighted it. I never tried to group test it since. Sighted it in and been hunting with it ever since. Just like you said it’s a cheap rifle and not a target rifle so didn’t really care. I wouldn’t also trust the consistency in any rimfire ammunition.

I actually didn’t realize you were talking about the 22 Hornet. Anytime someone mentions the Hornet, I instantly think of the 17.
