Re-tanning ?

I have 2 flat raccoon pelts and I went through the process of fleshing and washing and the salt bath and then used the orange bottle tanning solution. lt's
been drying for several days now but there is still oily spots. l've scraped so much that hairs are starting to pop up through the flesh side.

Is it possiable to wash these hides again in cold salt water and dawn dish soap mix then towel dry and reapply the tanning solution? I really don't want it to end up rotting.

Dont know anything abiut tge “orange” solution you speak of. I always use an acid bath then neutralize then apply tge tanning oil and let it dry befire “breaking” the hides.
I would let it dry though. Moisture is the enemy of leather. You may already have thinned too far if the fur is coming out through the hide BUT drying can sometimes tighten the follicles up. Just dont handle or pull on them till the leather is totally dry!!

I use TrueBond tanning products and never had a problem.
