Reasons to carry your pistol with one in the chamber

That is what I have too... a shield w/safety, before they released the no safety version. It's very simple though to just leave the safety off and carry like that. I've never had it flip "on" by accident.

IMHO, if you are not comfortable carrying with a loaded chamber....then you are not ready to carry a firearm in a public space. If you must...then i recommend carrying a double action wheel gun with the hammer resting on an empty chamber.

Have there been any DA revolvers made in the last 50 years or more where it is unsafe to keep the gun fully loaded? I would never own any sort of DA revolver ever that did not allow me to keep the hammer over a loaded chamber.

Small pocket sized revolvers are already at a disadvantage with how many rounds they can carry compared to similarly sized autos. I for one am not going to leave any holes in my cylinder empty!

That doesn't make a bit of sense.

i'm with those guys.....

when dealing with a revolver, especially a modern DA - why would you take away one of the most important things you have with that platform - one of your rounds of ammo? an empty chamber makes NO sense.

quite possibly some of the worst advice i've heard about self defense, next to leaving your gun in your vehicle when you go into a building thats not a gun free zone.....

1911, locked and cooked, open or concealed. If you cannot carry like this, you must as well carry a bat as suggested.
People need to understand that when you start carrying, you are accepting the possibility that you will have to take a life. Some on here will disagree with my line of thinking and I'm not be being a warmonger. OK you just shot a target at 21 feet. There more to that than just hitting paper. There was statistic a couple of years back that if an attacker pulls a knife within 21 feet, your sustaining injury. If your carrying and don't have a condition red weapon, I hope your good at first aid and carrying a lot of gauze. Me, I'll take my chances.

There is no way that someone is riding off on something that I worked and paid for without a fight. As far as a failure to fire, when is the last time that any of us had a failure. As advised by a law group that represents concealed carry permit holders, I only carry factory ammo, no handloads. I shoot up my carry ammo every six months to keep it fresh. I cant imagine a failure on one of my guns.

If a pistol can't be made to go BANG, with the press of the trigger, I don't carry it. Even my wife, who had to have a safety on her M&P 9c, has come around.

Last weekend, when all of the menfolk were away deer hunting, and something went bump in the night, she didn't grab her M&P 9c, but rather my Glock 21, out of the nightstand, because she knows it is locked and ready to Glock, and needs nothing more than a pull of a trigger to dispatch violence. When she was telling us the story, my oldest son said, "Mom, you'd better hang on to that Glock, it kicks a little more than your M&P". Her reply was precious, "I only need to get one off". Nothing like confidence.

I had to fire in self defense in South America and didn't even have the space too clear my pocket. First two rounds were through my short pocket. One hand keeping a gun out of your face while using your elbow to shield your self from a knife and pipe doesn't give you much room for movement. S&W MD 36 with the spur ground off to the rescue.

Glad you are ok!

Folks that have not been assaulted or robbed have very different ideas of what they "like" in a carry gun vs a person that has been half beaten to death during a robbery.

Gang initiations are often where they swarm a victim(s)....just say'en.

Another thing, if you feel like you should carry a pistol for self protection, better carry a spare magazine also. When you are scared to death, you can pop off 7 rounds and never even realize it. Real world is NOT like the movies.

Cocked and locked 1911 + 2 mags.

If i am carrying, round in, hammer down on safe. (yes, i have been in multiple engagements)

I have never had an issue taking the weapon off safe, and working the double action.

When it's in the car or at home, empty tube. There is time. imo
