Recoil Lugs and Bottom Metal

I'm in the process of a new build. It will be on a Remington 700 action. I have been reading a lot about recoil lugs and bottom metal. I do not want a detachable magazine, instead I want a hinged floor plate (BDL).

What are some good products to consider?

Badger Ordnance bottom metal at Brownnells, nice. Your barrel maker will lap you bolt head and set your lug. He can glass bed your action or buy an HS stock. I like Choate stocks, save a little money to spend on your scope. Have fun with you new build.

I am also into a new build and wanted a hinged floor plate, call Dave Kiff at PT&G. $89 for aluminum bld hinged floor plate. I have recieved mine and it is very nice. I am getting it cerakoted so it will finish real well. He also has ones that already have a nice finish on them

How do you figure the barrel maker will do the work ?

Brad, so what's the project gonna be ?

Tim, this is the 243AI that I have had on order since the fall.

This is not the build I was talking to you about. However, after talking to you and a few others my next build will be a 223AI. I am still researching for it. I plan on ordering it sometime this summer if all goes well.

Not give up on 20VT may put it farther down the line. LOL

An aftermarket or ground recoil lug means nothing if the action hasn't been trued. You need the surfaces, all surfaces, as true as can be. The barrel shoulder should be square during the chambering process, if done right.

Just curious how many people on here have broke Factory Remington bottom metal???

I'm sure PTG & others makes a better hinge, but it's not going to make your rifle shoot better... Spend the extra money on trigger time.
